That depends on what Cat version and what driver version is installed.

For example, an newer CCC will not work with an older driver version. Conversely, a newer driver will not have a functioning CCC if the CCC suite is older than the driver.

The driver does not require CCC to function properly, although you don't have access to it's controls.

When a driver installation goes awry, the best practice is to uninstall the ATI Catalyst install manager from add/remove programs first. Normally that removes both CCC and the driver.

If it doesn't, you must manually uninstall the drivers from within device manager.

Then you boot into safe mode, run driver sweeper as 'run as administrator', re-boot normally and install whichever Catalyst suite you wish to use.

The driver on the disc is 15/05/09 v 8.620.0.0
Not too old really is it? That was also the last driver that worked in the OnOne forum...

Well,I just had to take a look at my driver files. would you believe there are more than 30 driver files listed there?? Not all of which I am convinced are even valid driver files. Of course, I could be wrong. Example: atiogl.xml It lists no provider, version or anything else. AND its #1 on the list.
So if I uninstall CCC, then driver sweep in safe, that will remove all files I assume. And since I have the latest version install package on the system, I can just run it again?

The solid advice is always to un-install any software before installing newer/ updated software.

When a program overwrites another, there can sometimes be problems with the overwrite, parts get left behind, parts become corrupt, and so when the new driver starts to work, you get conflicts, which in turn cause the sort of problems your having.

For piece of mind and if it was me, i would un-install the driver, find the latest one that works with your other piece of software and do a clean install.
It just saves all the grief later on, when things start to go wrong.

When I install Catalyst 9.1, there is NO 'cross-fire' enable/disable selection available. What am I missing here? :confused:

The latest is 9.11, not 9.1. Do you even have 2 cards setup in crossfire?

It is 9.11. I was trying to set up a HYBRID crossfire and finally called Radeon after putsing all day with it. This card (MSI 4550) is not compatible with Hybrid Crossfire, and according to the rep, that is probably why the tab in Catylist 9.11 would not diaplay. Not a big-deal, just use it as-is :)

just FYI.......

the official 10.1 release is still thwart with issues, they dont report being WHQL & they still list 9.12 due to ATI forgetting to alter the ''inf'' file

this is the 8.70 RC2 (supposed 10.2 revision string)

im running these myself with no problems, the 3 driver sets....

2D driver version
Direct3D version
Open GL version

are all newer than the official 10.1's (here's an image of the 10.2 RC2)

apparently 10.1 (8.69 revision string), will not add any new features...... these will only address a few bugs.

the 10.2 (8.70 revision string) will contain all the goodies, so i'd recommend giving these BETA's a try...

I recently built an Asrock mainboard with HD3200 onboard graphics and downloaded the CCC and 7.6 drivers, I await the client to purchase an HDMI cable and HDTV to connect to her new custom HTPC. Thanks for the update,Aaron

Issues resolved with ATI Catalyst 10.2 Hotfix:

  • Resolves the issue when the game hangs/freezes after applying DX11 from within the game when using:
o ATI Radeon™ HD 4800 Series
o ATI Radeon™ HD 4700 Series

  • Resolves the issue when mouse cursor becomes enlarged at random while using Windows 7
Instructions:
Download and install the ATI 10.2 Catalyst hotfix from the following location:
