Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 Now Available

Source: IEBlog : Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 Now Available

We’re excited to release IE8 Beta 2 today for public download. You can find it at http://www.microsoft.com/ie8. Please try it out!

You’ll find versions for 32- and 64-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008. In addition to English, IE8 Beta 2 is available in Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), and German. Additional languages will be available soon.
While Beta 1 was for developers, we think that anyone who browses or works on the web will enjoy IE8 Beta 2. Before the team blogs about our Beta 2 in detail, here’s an overview of what you’ll find in IE8.
We focused our work around three themes: everyday browsing (the things that real people do all the time), safety (the term most people use for what we’ve called ‘trustworthy’ in previous posts), and the platform (the focus of Beta 1, how developers around the world will build the next billion web pages and the next waves of great services). ......

Hi Tank,

It is possible that there are still bugs in the IE8 code (see earlier in this thread for information on providing feedback) and, since some gadgets on the sidebar utilise online information, this could prevent the sidebar from opening correctly. Try manually starting your sidebar and close all gadgets except the clock. Does the sidebar work now? Try adding a gadget that needs online access, such as 'Feed Headlines'. Is the sidebar still working, or has it 'hung'?

Hi Tank,

I have not seen this problem from IE8 yet, but it is still a beta version. In addition to Dwarf's suggestion, you might give this tutorial a try to see if it can get the Sidebar started.

Hope this helps,

You could try typing Sidebar into startmenu search box. When it pops up, right click and run as administrator. Then right click on the Sidebar, click properties , tick box that says run at start ( or is it startup - I got rid of sidebar so can't check it ) then Apply and Ok ( or maybe it's just OK - again, can't check it - but that's the general idea ).

Hope this helps

been using IE8 for a couple of days now, and all has been fine, apart from searching on this forum, using the Google search, IE8 keeps opening new tabs with the results, forcing me to close it down, anyone else found this problem?

My Computer

I cannot run the Sidebar from the link also. Following message has been traced from the event log.

Error 14-Sep-02008 11:53:00 PM Application Error 1000 (100)

If I try to repair windows from its original disc would it help, I havent gone through it yet.

Thanks to all for their help

Hi Tank,

Was the sidebar working prior to you installing IE8, or have you just noticed that it no longer works? Try a 'System Restore' to restore your system prior to you installing IE8 to see if that makes any difference.

Hi Tank,

You appear to have answered your own question. It would be a good idea for you to provide feedback to Microsoft at the link given below. Include as much detail as you can about the fault (the detail from your earlier post should do). This will help the developers of IE8 iron out potential problems and bugs.

Nanu, nanu.
Thank goodness for this site! I just received 03Oct08 MS Download Notification. First topic under 'Windows' is;

Download Internet Explorer 8 beta.
Browsing is now faster, easier and safer than ever. Download IE 8 beta today.

'OK', says I, 'Nothing like a challenge on a wet Saturday'.........click........

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage......................Oooooooooops!

Snavblaff! So it's off to Vista Forums for the real gems.

Edit/Add;

One hour later with successful IE8 beta download, all add-ons intact and checking out other additional 'goodies', checked out the email MS Download link again.......and same result, but with much better graphics! So I suppose I shouldn't grumble.

A hint for other Greenhorn Newbies......I 'snip' all relevant helpful advice, hints and guru suggestions, and stuff them in my Documents in a Folder I call 'What the heck do I do now?' Stuff like the IE8 beta 'Delete History' and 'Uninstall' advice given by the Sages of this Forum. Saves me having to come back here to start scratching around all over again, and again . The folder has that 'good stuff' all in one place
where I can choose at random. A sort of Auntie Agnes's Agony Album!

Edit/Add; 05Oct08

I have confined IE8 beta to barracks until its behaviour improves:sa:!!!!! I noted some great features in it, but features don't help much when;

1. The ability to sent photos via WLM from the Windows Live Photo Gallery was corrupted to a point that the function was disabled. and,
2. This morning, my usual access [click on Live Mail icon] to WLM was completely knocked out and I had to access through the ugly link on the IE webpage..... I hate the look and workface of that site, with a passion:mad:.

I thank-you for the tip about uninstalling, I've made good use of it to revert to IE7, where I shall remain until all these bugs are sorted out. If I knew how, I would report these problems to MS, but I'm sure that many others are gnashing their teeth, or in some cases, flumping their gums, over these issues.

Somewhere in all this mucking around, a bug has been introduced to my Windows Live Photo Gallery because it now is giving signs of corruption and instability...... Bah bloody humbug!!

Rodger, Rodger, and Out!!
