Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 Now Available

Source: IEBlog : Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 Now Available

We’re excited to release IE8 Beta 2 today for public download. You can find it at http://www.microsoft.com/ie8. Please try it out!

You’ll find versions for 32- and 64-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008. In addition to English, IE8 Beta 2 is available in Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), and German. Additional languages will be available soon.
While Beta 1 was for developers, we think that anyone who browses or works on the web will enjoy IE8 Beta 2. Before the team blogs about our Beta 2 in detail, here’s an overview of what you’ll find in IE8.
We focused our work around three themes: everyday browsing (the things that real people do all the time), safety (the term most people use for what we’ve called ‘trustworthy’ in previous posts), and the platform (the focus of Beta 1, how developers around the world will build the next billion web pages and the next waves of great services). ......

I read all the pages of this post but no one has made comments about the windows pre loaded updates before IE8 vista 64 can be installed , so the people having issues did they put the updates in first and all of them ,or not.

I would think that few that frequent Vista forums are not current with WU!

Later  Ted

That's what I get for reading the notes that say for Vista 64 , you have to install the updates FIRST:huh:

-but anyways they don't load till after IE8 ,which is alot faster BTW-some sites took 10sec. to open , now 1-2 sec. very nice:D

Using "beta 8" as well. Also installed IEPro7-tools,which I used on IE7,which has Ad Blocker,Privacy Cleaner, etc, and so far it works fine in IE8.I like the design, and layout, and if I do come across a bug, will let Microsoft know.Like the Smartscreen Filter,in the Safety section of the tool bar, allowing you to check a website, and report an unsafe one.

Re: ie8 url history broken?

Hi fieseler (and any others following this thread),

As you are aware, IE8 is still currently in Beta, and, as such, this means that there might still be bugs in the code which need dealing with prior to the final release. I suggest that you report any issues to the 'Internet Explorer Beta Feedback' site (link given below).

I keep getting script errors from IE 8B2 whenever a popup shows up - even if MySpace IM runs its little popup.

Actually, it is an error dialog about the app crashing, but the app in question never actually crashes.

I'll try to report this tomorrow.

SIW2,

Google did the exact same thing with Crome to make each tab and plugins not crash the entire browser if one page crashed ;)

Its beta so I things will change....

My Computer

I tried the IE8 Beta 2 for a week and found it lacking. I can see the promise of what it will become though and that's why I held out uninstalling it for the week. I couldn't overcome many of the issues and the speed was slower than IE7. I have a brand-new computer and it has 6GB of memory along with a dedicated graphics card, so I know my system wasn't the problem.
Uninstalling it was a breeze and IE7 was left intact with all it's patches. One reboot and I was back in IE7 nirvana.
I definately will be on board for IE8 when it's fully cooked but until then; making do with IE7 will be a pleasure.

My Computer

Hi, CMarie, and welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the insight into the uninstallation process - that seems to be a topic that has not been touched upon, and it is good to know that the uninstall was not only easy but that IE 7 was left intact.

This is why I don't understand why most of y'all don't utilize the "System Restore" function.
I mean it's there; it works great for stuff like this and restore points are created automatically.
It takes all of five seconds to create a point before a system change and most of you
disable it out of hand ...
Also this ... http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76227-system-restore-disk-space.html?ltr=S ... can be used to limit the disc space usage!

Just my two cents!

Because in cases of software installation, if your use a system restore, which restores *settings* but does not replace *files* and something was replaced by the IE 8 installation in the registry you're safe.

but if it replaced a *file* all the System restores in the world ain't gonna bring that file back.

Later  Ted

Thanks for reminding about that function Ted. I've never automatically used it and it's something I should learn more about. I uninstalled the IE8 Beta 2 the way I did after doing some research on blogs about uninstalling the Beta from Vista. I don't know if I'd have been quite so brave about it had someone else not done the leg work!

Also: thanks for the nice welcome. I plan to visit this blog often. I find feeding off the experience of others helps me greatly. I love computer technology - have since the early eighties.
