IE8 final release today

Microsoft seems to be in a browser race because IE7 on Vista 64 isn't stable and lagging and IE8 is released already? I smell disaster already.

I thought the same thing since I have posted here before about random lockups with IE7 but so far IE8 (once I got the sidebar issue solved) has been great and zero lockups and I surely would have had 1 or 2 a day with IE7 so they did something right. Not to mention it is pretty fast also...I would highly recommend it.

When you say fast, what do you mean? On my 32bit Visat machine, web sites take 8 or 9 seconds to open. Under IE7 4 to 5 seconds. So, to me IE8 is slower.

Note: I have also been working for several days with Microsoft Vista techs to resolve my analog sidebar clock problem with NO success....

I installed IE8 and it seems twice as slow as IE7 and much slower than Firefox. I haven't really found any real use for the accelerators and other new features in IE8 either. Guess I'll stick with trusty old FF. Maybe they'll improve upon IE8 by the time Windows 7 comes out.

I have found that IE8 is alot slower than 7, I will give it time and see how it goes.

First impressions...not really that great. It still takes ages to start the browser after clicking the icon, and after using Chrome it seems painfully slow. Some pages opened a little faster others were still slow. Some nice little touches but still feels sluggish and a little bloated. Don't think I will be switching back to IE any time soon.

If you are on a broadband connection and websites are taking that long to open then you have other issues not related to IE....my pages always open instantly and no page takes longer than 2 seconds to load on a cable connection.

Yeah websites load just as quickly as any other browser but opening the browser initially and opening new tabs in the browser is very slow compared to FF and Chrome.

Re: Installed I& 8 -totally unimpressed-problems & slower than IE&

Installed IE 8 and it kills anolg clock gadget. It also seems slower in opening most web pages. It also adds several items that show up as CPU usage in my CPU meter. To me it also does not look as good as IE 7.

Therefore for now, I used the uninstall option under support--It worked and add my analog clock gadget back. It's working OK now. Saw another post that mentioned problems with the sidebar.

I can't believe MS released this piece of Crap:mad: i am not a Microsoft basher like many, but I am VERY diapointed. After a year they could --should have done better!

P.S. Vista 32 bit ultimate.

Found source of problem: I had DPI for text in apperance set to a custom setting, setting this back to normal 96 DPI or 120 fixes the sidebar problems and speed seems much better, but I still don't like IE8 as much as 7 so I am going back to IE 7---its faster also! :geek:

My Computer

looks the same to me 7 or 8 i dont notice any difference.... i dont see the faster thing in ie 7... both just as fast for me so even though they the same i stick with 8

I've noticed on my BT Yahoo! toolbar on Explorer that a button has appeared informing me that I can get IE 8 now. Does this mean it is compatible with the Yahoo! toolbar? I am probably going to wait a bit before I try IE 8 anyway.

Dont know where you heard that.

I have no issues on Vista 64 Ult with IE. :)

You simply install the 64bit build and it updates both the default 32bit IE and the 64bit IE.

My Computer

yeah who told you that lie? i use vista ultimate 64bit and it works just fine using the final version of ie 8

Intelligence would be not to use Yahoo or any Toolbars as they ain't actually FREE they spy on you.

OK, the toolbar came with the BT Yahoo! package & actually makes a featureless browser slightly more useful. Secondly, it doesn't actually spy on anyone but relays statistical information back to Yahoo! if it does anything. Most tracking cookies only do the same thing. 99.9% of the time I am on line I am in Opera (like now) or SeaMonkey anyway.
