IE8 final release today

I think I'll probably wait until it comes down through Windows Update, I know when I was using it in Windows 7 there was a compatibility problem with the payment system of one of the sites I use on a regular basis.

Just got it installed and here are a couple things I encountered:

1) Upon first use it crashed my Vista Sidebar...going to reboot and see if that solves it.
2) I had a folder in my favorites list named "links" with a group of similar sites I browse and it somehow thinks this is the "favorites" folder which it is not, it is actually a subfolder in my favorites list. I noticed this issue with the beta version.
3) I have Vista 64bit and trying to open the IE 64 bit from your start menu causes an IE crash. I guess there is only one usable version of IE now where you could use the 64 bit version but not many pages supported it. Maybe IE 8 for Vista 64 is all inclusive in the one version?

That is all I found so far but IE8 seems really fast and full of new features to get used to.

Follow up to my last post:

IE8 borks the Vista Sidebar. Rebooting only resulted in the sidebar crashing upon reboot without even opening IE at all. Did they even run IE8 on a Vista system with the sidebar active?? I mean how do things like this get past beta testing?

I have Vista x64 and IE8 runs great. I have had no problems. I am running the sidebar. I was running RC1 and un-installed it before installing the final and have had no problems. I hope you get it worked out. Some of these Vista gurus can help you.

I uninstalled IE8 and the sidebar was working again. Tried installing IE8 one more time and as soon as PC rebooted as required by IE8 I get the sidebar problems again so it is directly linked to IE8. It sent the information to MS so maybe this will be solved soon and I will run without the sidebar for now.

What does the sidebar do after installing ie8?

But its slow as usual...

I get a message saying "that the sidebar has stopped working and will be closed". It is directly related to installing IE8 and problem goes away if I uninstall and go back to IE7. My sidebar starts with Vista so this message pops right away after a reboot. I hope this problem is not just isolated to me.

The issues above are caused by Flash 10 which is buggy and publically known to be.

Revert back to Flash 9 and it will be fine.

I do not get issue on either but it has to do with your personal Gadgets.

Vista64 Ult here.

Installed I& 8 -totally unimpressed-problems & slower than IE&

Installed IE 8 and it kills anolg clock gadget. It also seems slower in opening most web pages. It also adds several items that show up as CPU usage in my CPU meter. To me it also does not look as good as IE 7.

Therefore for now, I used the uninstall option under support--It worked and add my analog clock gadget back. It's working OK now. Saw another post that mentioned problems with the sidebar.

I can't believe MS released this piece of Crap:mad: i am not a Microsoft basher like many, but I am VERY diapointed. After a year they could --should have done better!

P.S. Vista 32 bit ultimate.

after downloading ie8 final from MS site i got this:

For those of you with Vista x64 who have sidebar probs after installing IE8 ...

Open the run box and run the following three commands and your sidebar will then run properly on reboot.

regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 scrrun.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll

I'm not so trilled with IE8. Has crashed many times so far (vista 32). Doesn't seem slow, but so little customization options. One thing I totally like is new Zoom feature, totally rocks, was comparing it to Safari 4 Beta, and it's much better (less noise on zoomed images, and it ain't that blurry too :)). But I'll stick to Safari. Yeah, memory consumption is rather excessive, and ACID3 test total failure

Cheers,
Miki

I'm using it right now and, to be honest, I'm amazed. It's actually faster than firefox on my computer and it even looks good. The only thing that bothers me is the white lines on the edges of the screen and taskbar when maximized, but I had that with ie7.

Granted, I just tweaked my graphics so everything runs faster (ntune).

I didn't notice those "white lines"

Crashing on http://www.topgear.com/uk/ , can anyone confirm this (even in Compatibility mode)?
