Safe mode appears to not be a problem. I'll try it now to test. Safe mode with networking is not consistent

If I do this then I could revert back to BSoD. This is the closest I have been to a proper boot. What do you suggest now?

For some reason Windows is trying to configure Adobe Acrobat 8.1.3 Standard but now the following message has appeared:

When I use explorer to go to that directory, I get:

Would renaming this folder and creating a new spool folder be any use?

Network problems now. Intermittent connection and stops working when trying to use Outlook or IE

Another day..... and a little progress. I have managed to get an internet connection by disabling the MS ISATAP adapter that was causing a problem - Error 31. However, I cannot use MS Outlook as every time I try to launch it, Internet Exporer says it has stopped working, closes down and restarts. And now everything has frozen, except the cursor. Black screen. Error message "logon has failed to create the security options dialog" "Failure-Security Options" CLicked OK and now got IE up but not responding. Cntrl Alt Del not working. May have to shut down with the start button........ Bugger. May not get booted in normal again for a while.
Rebooted nearly an hour ago and decided to let the laptop do a System repair. It has tried to restart, but is now a blank blue screen with occasional flickers from HD LED
