Here is the section I think you need

Hello,

Thanks for that. Well done for parsing the file, as it is quite a lot of work for us. Looking at it, there are two corrupt files, settings.ini and PresentationSettings.exe.mui.

Settings.ini is not a problem, just ignore it. It also looks like PresentationSettings.exe.mui has been fixed, so can you please re-run SFC, errors will still show up, but if there is no mention of PresentationSettings.exe.mui, then we can say that all issues have been fixed.

Richard

OK I am running SFC now. I haven't done anything about Nvidia driver yet. Should I do that?
I can't connect to the internet yet either. Not sure why.

My Computer

Well I have rebooted and it got as far as Windows Vista's Welcome screen and that's it. It has stopped.

Second attempt and guess what........... blue screen of death......... again

Well, apart from the settings.ini (not to worry about) your new logs are clean. :) One small corruption was found and fixed (PresentationSettings.exe.mui) so we need to move on.

As for your BSoD, can you please go to the nVidia website and download the latest drivers for your card. Here is the link: Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers If you don't know what graphics card you have, please find out using the free Speccy: Speccy - Download

Good luck,

Richard

I have tried Speccy but this does not help as it doesn't identify much in safe mode. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS so I assume I can find this on the net somewhere.

My Computer

So I have tried the drivers from NVIDIA for Vista 32bit GeForce 9300M GS and everytime I run set up I get the message that Set up cabnnot find drivers that are compatable with your hardware. WHat am I doing wrong?

Have removed NVIDIA driver from display settings. But as none of the downloads work the laptop has installed standard Windows VGA driver and the laptop still will not boot

Hi Arty,

Could you run the SysInfo tool again (Select All), export and upload?

What actually happens when you try a normal boot?

We'll get to the end of this yet...

Well, at one point it rebooted in normal mode but then everything froze, with the exception of the cursor. Since then, I don't seem to be able to reboot in any mode... even safe mode. If I can get it to boot, I will do as you ask.

Incidentally, I looked on another forum and someone suggested that disabling UAC resolved the problem for him. Is this feasible?

The System Info is running as I type and the file will be attached here, hopefully

"Since then, I don't seem to be able to reboot in any mode... even safe mode"

Since you were able to get the SysInfo data, I assume you were able to boot in Safe mode?

As it's using the VGA driver now, it looks like the NVidia driver might have been a red herring.

Run a Startup Repair Startup Repair: frequently asked questions and see how that goes.

I tried that a while back and got nowhere! I'll try once more and let you know what happens. Do I need to reinstall Nvidia drivers somehow?

My Computer

It says OS booted successfully. Gone to restart and waiting to see what happens.

ANd the answer is.... not a lot. Got past the Windows Welcome, the screen turns blue and nothing else happening at the mo. Cursor still moves though. Gotta go out for a while. Will check for your latest post in a while

Back but no more posts yet.

We'll look at the NVidia driver problem once we get your boot problem fixed.

By the way, the SysInfo file says it was taken at 17:31 today. You need to fix your system clock before anything else.
