Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

It's not rumor its FACT. This is a VISTA site, and this program was recommended for use with VISTA.

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT USE

Eusing Free Registry Cleaner: Safely scan and repair registry problems - Spyware FREE.

This POS Software package will corrupt your windows settings and will prevent control panel from operating

quit spreading false rumors. Eusing does not work on x64 correctly.

It's not rumor its FACT. This is a VISTA site, and this program was recommended for use with VISTA.

It was never made clear if it would work on an x64 system. It'll work on a x86 system fine.

Ok guys, settle down, this is not a flamer site. We pride ourselves on being helpful, co-operative, and most of all, friends. Peace.

Wow thats a pretty overall list of things Joe, thanks I appreciate it. Although I already have SpybotS&D, and Spyware Doctor. I do registry cleaners and defrags also.. and I don't want to use something like avast or AVG becuase I don't want to use a free anti virus program, I want to pay for a nice top of the line one that will give me the best protection.. or are you saying the mix ur using is better than Kaspersky or anything of that sort..??

Thanks for ur input, but I was hoping to get some idea's or input on people that have, use, or know of whats the best thing for a Anti-virus or for a Internet Security Suite. Because thats what I'm looking for at the moment.. Thanks again..

Anyone else have some thoughts feel frreeee to Share please!
Hi nowt wrong with avg mate I have used it for over 3 years without any problems unlike norton as it is less invasive and takes up less hard drive space and the new version avg 8 pro is brilliant with very good features

Have you try Norton 2009 version. It is light and noninvasive. If you try it, you may change your mind; I did.:D Well, it is not free though.

If its Vista you don't need an anti-virus in the system - Windows Defender is enough - for XP i would recomend Notron Internet Security 2009 - One of the Best !!!

My Computer

If its Vista you don't need an anti-virus in the system - Windows Defender is enough

Yeah, Vista doesn't need an anti-virus, trojan or malware unless of course you are actually connected to the INTERNET!

Some basic Windows app can do 1/18 (if that) the job of a proper virus scanning app.

Windows Defender is designed to find PUPs not viruses, spyware, trojans and adware.

An anti-virus app is ESSENTIAL in todays internet climate. The RIAA and MPAA have moved on to making viruses that deny access to websites that they deem 'unacceptable'.

So don't go preaching 'the world is a happy place where no one is going to hurt you' because the world is not a happy place and people are out to hurt you.

avast! is good, small footprint so it starts quick (especially compared to AVG).

Hi. I use Zone Alarm Security Suite on my XP computer and like it. When I bought my Vista 32 bit, I used the 32 bit Vista version of Zone Alarm and like it. I just bought my X64 Vista and Zone Alarm does not make a 64 bit version. Wanting a combo AV and Firewall, I tried a number of programs and didn't have too much luck. Trend Micro, for example, told me the reason I was having so many troubles with their product was that I had the beta version of SP1 installed and that I would either have to uninstall SP1 or their program. I opted for their program. At the moment I'm using AVG for everything but firewall and I'm using Windows for that. Satisfactory but I do like the way ZA works on my other machines and if you have 32 bit Vista, you might try them.

New here but not to computers,, Zone alarm currently has a beta version available for 64 bit vista, runs without crashes on a new dell no problem/ The only thing is you have to keep reloading it every 30 days as they are not making the test versions upgradeable. Personally I don,t have aproblem with this,I know I am helping them test a beta version and I really don,t want residual from thelast version sticking around. Worth a try if you like Zone alarm and are used to it from your XP days.

I know that we each have our perference to what is the best AV. I am still using the paid version from AVG and it works ok for me. I have it set to run when I am not using the computer so that is not a problem. It does everything you need or except from a AV and more. I do believe the new version is getting better day by day. I will just add that if you want a solid AV with all the goodies AVG might be right for you.

Computer has had the motherboard, power pak and tv tuner replaced. Using HP Deskjet F440 Printer, and IE9.
I do not like Norton at all. I had it installed with both my computers. Once I opened it, every if I didn't intend too, I had the hardest time trying to get it off. I COULD NOT GET IT OFF MY COMPUTER NO MATTER WHAT I TRIED. I contacted the Norton company many times and I could not get ahold of them by email or phone. I kept getting a recording. I will never use a software company that will not support me or return my calls.

Therefore, I now use Windows Live OneCare. I won't say it's without its' problems, but the security is great. I can allow what I want to and the backups are very easy. It has its own firewall and gives me a report anytime I want it. I can have it run on a schedule or run it when I want to. Therefore, I can control it or let it control itself. I like having that option. If I don't feel comfortable doing something I'm not sure I'm doing right, I let it do it for me. I really like it better than any other I've tried. So far, I have had no virsuses or malware on my computer at all. I really like it for protection. It is easy to use and also very reliable.

(although I have a small problem with it, my problem does NOT interfere with it protecting my computer.) I would recommend it to anyone; especially if they have any form of Windows.

I see I disagree with Ojaser6. I guess everyone has their own opinion and whatever works best for you, use it!

Also, I would watch what kind of websites I go to. That in itself can cause problems if you don't know what you're doing.

Older version of Norton was a pain to get off the system. NIS 2009 was painless and the uninstaller actually worked and removed all the related files.

PS. Don't use the Norton firewall, stick with Vista one.

What's so hard to understand Norton's firewall?? I'd prefer Norton's over Vista.
I tweaked it nice...no problems:)
I agree---
"If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it." I've gotten into a lot of trouble downloading things I thought would be better for me and I've ended up creating a mess many times. I don't do much of that now!

VERY GOOD ADVICE!

Opps! Sorry! Did I get this in the wrong reply?

I'm learning! Sorry to bother you.

My Computer

I know this----
In today's world I wouldn't dare use my computer without some kind of antivirus! It's just too risky no matter how careful you are.

Guys,

Take a look at this report, The only AV to pass was Symantec with 3%

http://www.vistax64.com/vista-news/186794-top-security-suites-fail-exploit-tests.html

I'm a very very simple computer user. I know all about hacking and modifying and altering programs galore. So knowing so much I guess justifies not needing a virus program.
Wrong again! It justifies INSTALLING an antivirus. My main computer has been running without active antivirus for quite some time. I STILL do manual scans regularly. NIS2009 changed that though, I run it with all features on with minimal impact on performance.

Wrong again! It's the same as saying "I ran an antivirus once a year ago, it detected nothing so I figure I don't need it"...

both of us dont use Antivirus... why the hell should we?

We are both experienced enough to spot suspicious files and deny these files UAC rights so the virus is harmless...

Its been nearly two years since Vista was released and I have not had to use AV once and have had no virus`s or malware infect my system...

Being aware of entry points like websites, e-mail and IM make it really damm easy to spot suspicious files...

E-mail:
If i get an attachment from someone I always reply and ask them what they sent...UAC will stop anything from gaianing full administrator rights so seeing UAC prompt itself while opening an attachment is a huge indicator its a virus ;)

Websites:
Well UAC runs them as a 'sandbox' so their not going to get much further than that

IM:
I can just ask them instantly :p

UAC makes windows security like linux(UAC has all the same features as SU, works exactly the same as SUDO and protects the filesystem like linux does)
If it was never included with windows I definalty would be using a AV and have a totally different story...If I go back to using XP even with Antivirus I can 100% guanantee you beyond doubt I would be infected within hours every day

I like your style! I "neverhavemoney either! But I agree with you. You have to have something on your compter. It's just not safe anymore without it! :D
YOU CAN NEVER BE FULLY PROTECTED---FACT OF LIFE!

Hey everyone,
With all of the buffer overflow and intrusion out these days you deffinatly need a good firewall with any computer. No matter what you do.
Windows firewall is good but no where even near comodo. I have been messing around with there program for about half a year now and it finds everything.
One hacker tried to plant a virus on my HD in the system32 part of C:/ and i found out because comodo asked if i wanted a certain file to be updated from the internet and i denied it, went into lockdown mode(great feature for the internet firewall part),
and never even got the virus.
I use comodo internet security which is firewall+anti-virus | Spybot S&D | MalwareBites.
Only had one problem when i first started. I allowed(didnt notice what it said and just clicked yes) a rouge trojan in. Took a while but i got ride of it.
Try these and i guatentee that you will have a great computer experience.

Just remember: YOU CAN NEVER BE FULLY PROTECTED! But you can be the next thing to it

Wow
I just read this whole thread, and boy do some users get heated over their Antivirus Choice (or lack of it as the case may be).
I have used Eset, OneCare, AVG, Norton, Avast! all at one time or another, or have installed it on another computer, and no antivirus provides 100% detection/cleaning; some are better than others; and some are heavy on resources.

we all have our personnal preferences, but as for performance and detection rates (which to me are the most important aspects) there are two sources:

They are all junk tools.

If i had to say useful it would be Kaspersky online. One care is dead and buried! Norton needs to be streamlined. Trend micro is.... This doesn't really matter as there are more & more new AV out there each and every day. They all detect the same virus eventually.

I just downloaded Free Speed up your downloads on to my computer and got these for measure...

In defense of AV makers I will say you probably should have kept hands off that program, including crack - if there is one. There are those who cry about X not detecting their cracks, like they expected total safety because X has highest detection rate. Keep dreaming :) At least use sites like VirusTotal, they even have a little uploader program which lets you rightclick any file and send it directly to analysis. 39 AV programs is better than 1.

None of them will let you do what you like 24/7 without getting hurt that is true though. Much is up to you, including how you set AV up and which policy to follow regarding installations. No policy and in the "I want to try this, and I know just where to get it" mood and you asking for problems. Does not even have to be infections.

I have no problems accepting they suck at reaching 100% safety but most of the old AV programs could do a bit more in some areas. Instead they throw more useless paranoia features in. Since payment is subscrition based Im sure trick is to make buyer think all security issues rely on next payment. Cant visit a site without seeing a green button, cant punch in ID without approval and so on. And of course a 2 way firewall is essential, has saved so many who have no idea it is enabled from evils... Could even be they dont want to give you all you could get - because next year they want XX$ for upgrade. Typical you post a pic. from SuperAntiSpyware, could have been Malwarebytes - even Spybot&Destroy. Like they have discovered a whole new area of infections! More like discovering how much the old programs suck at it, especially removal. Is a little scary some (like 10000s every day) still think S&D is a must have. What it does, that is useful/important, you should be able to get from at least paid AV (security) software.
