Well 14 mths since my last post on this thread, my Vista is still running sweetly with FF absolutely no problems.

I had to replace my laptop 2 months ago so decided to go for W10 on a DELL laptop, a bit of a mistake on my part the touch pad is ultra sensitive and apparently it is a well known issue which has not been fixed by DELL it is some thing that I will have to live with or ditch it for another brand. Sorry if it is a bit off topic.

Hello mich,

You would be well-advised to use your Windows 10 PC for all web browsing and keep your old Vista PC offline (which is exactly what I do these days). Your Vista system hasn't been patched for more than 2 years, the last-ever Firefox 52 security update was issued more than a year ago, and now your Vista has a known vulnerability called BlueKeep that does not affect Windows 8 or 10.

For those who are still determined to use Vista for web browsing: Did you see my post at the bottom of the previous page about a Chromium 69 fork from China?

Welcome arcadianbue. I didn’t think Cyberfox supported Vista - in fact its sourceforge page plainly stated, “Windows Vista Unsupported.” But you must be an advanced user, because a very advanced user at MSFN once posted instructions to get that browser working on Vista. Too bad it would still not be possible to watch h.264 HD videos using Cyberfox on Vista. I’m not sure why you would prefer Cyberfox to other Firefox 52 forks that supported Vista?

Yes, true but I managed to get it working for x64 version of Vista by changing its code to recognize kernel 6 instead of 6.1....
Congratulations! I suspected you must be running Vista x64, and therefore would not be content with the x86 browsers that are always recommended at this forum. Too bad Cyberfox development ended in 2018. I wonder if you have heard of developer roytam1, who maintains builds of various Firefox forks (both x64 and x86) with support for Windows XP and Vista: My Browser Builds (Part 3). They might not be as fast as your Cyberfox, but have useful updates such as full support for TLS 1.3, and with third-party decoders you could watch h.264 videos.

Hello. On my Vista Business 64bit build 6.0.6003 with the latest updates from July 13, 2021 including IE9, as browsers I use MyPal 29.2.1 64bit, regularly weekly updated Serpent 59.2.0 64bit, NewMoon 28.10.4a1 64bit. The default is 360 Chrome Browser 13.5.1052.0 (... just got an update yesterday ...) on the Chrome kernel 86.0.4240.198. I didn't make friends with K-meleon.

Welcome 19jmsr56. “Serpent 59.2.0” has to be a typo: I’m sure you mean “52.9.0,” but you seem to know which browsers compatible with Vista have not been completely abandoned by developers, which is commendable. Good luck! :)

I install and update and use Windows Vista SP2 64-bit for testing purposes.
The MyPal 29.3.0 browser is easy to set up and configure, so it's what I use.
Unfortunately, it appears it will no longer be maintained and kept updated.

I've obtained a decent 32-bit Dell notebook running Vista Home Basic. It runs surprisingly well, and I've outfitted it with MyPal 68. Nearly modern browsing. There is no x64 build yet, but it's perfect for the notebook that I have.

I have a 14 year old ntb Fujitsu Esprimo Mobile V6545 with OS Vista Business 64bit OEM installed. I reliably use the 360 Chrome Browser version 13.5.2036.0 based on Chrome version 86.0.4240.198. With .NET Framework 4.7.2 preinstalled, regularly updated, I really recommend it. Add-ons from the Chrome Store, such as uBlock Origin, can be installed. Yes, I have MyPal 68 current version 68.12.5b installed as a backup browser. Vista is safe to use until February 14, 2023, then R.I.P.

Here is a link to the home page of the 360 Chrome project. 欢迎使用360极速浏览器 I would like to point out that this is a Chinese program, but it runs in English localization, even in Slovak for me. The Internet Download Manager add-on does not always work successfully, but the Video downloader professional add-on cooperates perfectly with it, practically everything can be downloaded with these add-ons. As for the fear of being tracked by various malware, spyware, etc., I scan the system once a week with the applications RKill 2.9.1.0, mbam-setup, JRT, HitmanPro_x64, adwcleaner-7-2-7, IObit Malware Fighter and the current version of Windows Defender. always with the result that the system does not contain harmful products, which is physically signaled to me on the desktop by the Vista CPU/RAM meter widget - the system is "at rest".

It took me a sometime to get that downloaded, installed and registered. I haven't explored it much but one thing it does is let me make direct entries in sites like Krogers, Facebook and Dropbox which I can no longer do in both the old Opera and Firefox browsers. I'll probably do some fine tuning on it tomorrow. Thanks for posting about it and providing the link.

I find that it won't play Pandora. Elsewise, I've been able to customize it although there are some menus in it that are still in Chinese.

It is necessary to consider that the OS Windows Vista is already 16 years old, of which it has been running for the last 4 years due to full compatibility with Windows Server 2008. Many software already run on it only in older versions (some of them are artificially blocked - my opinion). And as for extensions in Chinese - here is a link to the Chrome Web Store in your location: Chrome Web Store
if it finds and successfully installs the extension you want, the 360Chrome browser will accept it.

Up until about a year or so ago, Pandora was playable in any of the browsers I had and in two installations of Vista. It suddenly quit. What's missing is some sound file since Pandora works but I can't get any sound from it.

This is where my knowledge ends, I'm just a computer layman, self-taught, with 20 years of practical experience. But otherwise it indicates to me that there is either an error in the sound codec of the OS or the browser player. Or I would install again the version of the browser in which Pandora was functional without errors.

I appreciate your help. Like you, I'm going by my 35 years of "by the seat of my pants" with lots of help from others. On one Vista system without much software, I was previously able to run Pandora. On the other Vista system with tons of media software it decided to quit so, I figured, something in one of those pieces of software was the culprit. Then, both systems quit running Pandora with sound. This is all browser independent. I really haven't taken the time to find out the specs for the Pandora audio. I use Accuradio instead. This isn't an ad. I've made the Chrome 360 my default browser. Glad you posted about it.
