Win vista 32 bit . My son uses this computer. He will click on any
link. I have a router that connects three computers the other ones
are ok.

Ex_Brit, I'd be ever so grateful if you could send me a link to a 32-bit Vista Home Premium download as well as a 64-bit Vista Home Premium download.

The hard disk on hubby's Acer notepad died, and I had procrastinated about making a restore disk. <sigh> That was the 32-bit version.

Now the disk on my own Gateway computer with an AMD Phenom(tm) 8450 Triple-Core Processor is showing signs of age, and I'm not at all sure that I can make a good restore disk from the current system.

I'll post a quick answer here. With the 1st sign of ransomware people usually panic and start frantically clicking away, which only serves to activate the malware. The secret is, at the first sign of trouble, to not touch any keys or the mouse but pull the plug, or otherwise power off completely.
Then reboot into Safe Mode and hope that System Restore can take you back to before it happened.
Otherwise usually there's little you can do except format and reinstall...DO NOT EVER PAY THE RANSOM.
If System Restore worked, then temporarily disable it to delete the infected files.
You obviously need to start up Parental Controls and configure it to restrict your son's activities as much as possible.
