Vista ISO download

Ex-Brit,

Thank you so much for trying. I do hope that you can get a refund for that premium service; it was really kind of you to go that extra step for me.

If you or anyone else can think of another solution I'd really appreciate it.

Regards,
-Donna

Well perseverence pays off and I now can give you the download link which I will PM to you.

Thanks tom982 for suggesting Mega, I had forgotten about them and they are by far the best I've tried thus far. Trust the New Zealanders to come up with something that works.

All the best to everyone.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm downloading the file now. It's at 16% so there's a few more hours to go. And I have Image Burner ready to go once it's done. Finger crossed that it all works!

Thank you so much for getting it to me,

BTW Donna, I don't whether you're familiar with IMGBurn but when it opens there are 2 windows, both of which you need to keep open until the operation is finished.

It's a little off-putting at first until you get used to it.

Here's a pic of what I mean, somewhat squashed to save space (click to enlarge):

imgburn.JPG

It's the top left option you need and at the default settings everything should proceed normally.

Hi Ex-Brit-

Yeah, I didn't see your last message about Image Burner until after I finished using it. It was confusing, but I managed and it all worked! I just successfully activated Vista on the PC.

I can't thank you enough for your help. The PC actually belongs to my hubby, who is also an ex-brit. Unfortunately he "breaks" computers (this is the 2nd one in a month), but fortunately you fix them. Maybe there's parable in there somewhere :geek:

Kindest regards,
-Donna

Okay, one more question. Now there's a huge file named "My Backup-(date of crash)" left on the PC. I really don't need it because I already have all the important files and programs on external HDs. The PC's HD is only 69 G and the file is 37.2 G, so I'd really like to get rid of it. But when I open Restore Back Up it tells me there is no back up. And I can't delete it because it's read only.

Could someone please tell me how to get rid of that file?

Thank you in advance,
-Donna

My Computer

Hi Donna,

So glad to hear you did it OK. Make sure you are totally up to date. Now for that pesky orphaned backup file that's using up precious space.

Sounds like your hubby needs a lesson or two on good computer practices!! I'll leave that to you. ;-)

First thing to try is regular disk maintenance:

1. Open Disk Cleanup by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking System Tools, and then clicking Disk Cleanup.

2. In the Disk Cleanup Options dialog box, click Files from all users on this computer. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3. If prompted, select the drive that you want to clean up, and then click OK.

4. Click the More Options tab.

5. Under System Restore and Shadow Copies, click Clean up, and then, in the confirmation dialog box, click Delete.

6. You can repeat the operation for other drives if necessary.

If that doesn't help......

Try taking ownership of the backup folder to see if that allows you to delete it. This tutorial add "Take Ownership' to the right-click context menu makes that easy as pie: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/112795-context-menu-take-ownership.html Or regular Tutorial here: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html
