USB/HID-compliant causes game glitching

I have the same problem. If I hear dudunk dudunk again I'll go manic.

I only bought the computer a couple of days ago, I'll ask the techie at the store for help. I know there were conflicts between my case LCD software and ATI Catalyst Control Center as well, but he resolved those.

My Computer

@ Casual, Let me know if you have any luck. The issue has been narrowed down to an LCD conflict with the USB busses. Still not clear why the issue is only present during some games.

Actually, I think it is the iMon software that is not ending correctly, this software runs my LCD and came with the Silverstone case. But, killing it in the device manager is not enough to resolve the issue before playing the problem games...

edit: it's iMon that my LCD uses too, so far Kane and Lynch is the only game giving me trouble.

Well thanks for doing the worst of the troubleshooting before I got here ;)
You've tried everything I could think of and more so I'm feeling pretty useless.

The wonderful gentleman at the store was not in today unfortunately so I emailed him this thread. Hopefully he is reading this Wednesday and laughing at the simple solution we missed.

Drum roll...

Well, the suggestion was to unplug the LCD USB cord from the motherboard.
I did this and the sounds have stopped and the game is playable but still slightly jumpy. Much better than before, but still not ideal. I guess I'll play around a bit more and see if any settings improve the situation. In the long run though, I'm thinking we'll have to hassle the game developers or the case manufacturers if we want to "close the case". :D

@ Casual.

I can get all the problem games to work perfectly if I unplug the LCD. I guess I was left feeling that there must be a bug in the LCD driver, but I never got a chance to ping iMon...

Thanks Casual and BigRod for getting further forward on this - I was worried I may have been the only one with this problem. I have a Thermaltake case with pretty much the same problem.

I noticed that even loading the "Game Controller" program in "Control Panel" was enough to cause the LCD to go crazy. I noticed that you have a motherboard from the same manufacturer as I BigRod - could it be restricted to that manufacturer? if that's the case maybe we could dig around for updated chipset drivers that resolve the conflict? I strongly suspect that this is an IRQ assignment issue between the iMon and other USB devices.

Dunno if this might help you guys:
Generic USB troubleshooting

Also have you tried using older drivers for the LCD? unfortunately it may require manually "updating" the drivers, which could be tricky because I'm not sure of all the places it's listed in the Device Manager.

I'll try some of those possibilities tonight.

I am unable to play three different games (Lego Indian Jones, Lego Star Wars, and Kane and Lynch) because as the game starts I repeatively hear the USB connect/disconnect sound every couple of seconds. Now it is not the sound that makes the games unplayable, rather, the games glitch/pause (video/sound/control) corresponding with the connect/disconnect event.

I am using the Logitech Wave keyboard/mouse combo and a Logitech cordless rumble 2 connected via USB. If I disconnect all input USB devices and use PS/2 devices the games work smooth and perfectly. If I use a wired USB MS Intellipoint mouse (no other USB devices connected) the connect/disconnect issue is present.

I have updated all my drivers (video/MB/Inputs/Vistax64, etc.).

I have noticed in the Device Manager that there seems to be a new HID-compliant device added for every connect/disconnect event.

Other games do not have this issue (I often here the connect/disconnect on begining of a games intro screen but never again during the game), this includes: Crysis, Assasins Creed, Grid, Call of Duty 4, and Gears of War.

I have been searching the net for 2 weeks now and I can't seem to find anyone with this issue or a solution. HELP!

hehe, ive just read throught all the solutions and i cannot believe some of the answers, your not thinking ghuys, the answer is obviously a power issue with the usb hub yes? solution is an externally powered usb hub, i had the same issue with the wireless gaming receiver for windows, but it was working but disconnected all the time, try an externally powered hub and see if it works.

That wouldn't explain why less powerful games like Lego Star Wars won't work and more powerful games like Crysis does. It also wouldn't explain why I have problems with the LCD connecting and disconnecting just by entering the Game Controller program despite the fact I don't even have one plugged in and that the hardware works 100% reliably otherwise. A driver issue is much more likely - especially seeing my computer is pretty un-demanding spec wise and has a 400W power suppliy from a named brand (which is more than enough to power everything reliably).

I tried updating the chipset drivers the other day with no real effect sadly - I still need to try booting into safe mode and try forcing the hardware to change IRQ addresses to try and sort the problem. If the issue is with the iMon drivers themselves though I don't think anything is going to work until they update their drivers with a fix. :(

I can understand if everything is pointing away from this solution, but you are just dismissing it as poppycock. My system is self built and previously had a pentium 4 instead of a q6600 and also had an 8800gts 320mb with this power supply. plenty of power for such a poor system i hear you say, well even this isnt enough for the power hungry usb, I had this problem with my controllers and I started using an externally powered usb hub when they randomly disconnected for no apparent reason, they DID show up in the controllers list and often cut out during play, sometimes not cutting out at all, I do know what im talking about, i'm new to this forum but im not new to computing and all of its problems.

Im glad im not alone witht his problem....spent 3 hours on google to find solution and just found this thread...I played alot of other games and its fine...i dnt get the usb connecting/disconneting sounds, but just 1 game so far has this exact problem...its por evol soccer 2009....prior to installing my new VFD, it was fine....got my VFD today, installed it and it started doing it...my VFD is Thermaltake Media Lab which RUNS the iMon software too....once i unplug the VFD usb cable and paly the game, its fine...plug it back in....problem persists...tried muck around with drivers and no luck...im too suspecting its driver conflicting with other usb device or sumthing....maybe Pro evo soccer is using the xbox 360 pad, and when going into game controllers via control panel, the problem comes in,,,just that its not within the game....

The problem U all have is the same one as i have and it aint the mobo manufacturer or vga card or PSU.makes no difference.i have ASUS M3N78-EM mobo with latest nvidia 8300 chipset, ati radeon 4670 card (does not require external power via molex or pci-e connector) and chieftec HT-01SL htpc case with the same imon lcd displays and the same problems occur even in windows xp home.same problem with PES 2009.so it aint "hardware" problem but some problem with the imon software or front LCD display.everything works just fine when the connector is disconnected from the mobo.

thx johngalt for removing my email address.i signed in here since this was the only site where i found this topic although I use xp home.I had MSI mega651 htpc case and the only reason I gave some 500 euros for the new pc case and new cpu, vga, etc was to play pes 2009 i now I found out that it aint gonna happen.did anyone contact any of the manufacturers of all these htpc cases mentioned here in this thread?any solution for this problem?

My Computer

...and just to mention that I have the same problem event when I start the game with integrated graphics (nvidia 8300) so anyone pls skip the power issue as the possible problem couse it aint.(my pc is X2 5400 BE (not OC-ed),2GB kingston hyperX 8500,WD 250GB,DVD RW,asus M3N78-EM mobo and chieftec 300W PSU should be more than sufficient even with ati 4670 vga card installed since it does not require external power connector)

My Computer

SOLEVED!FINALLLY! ok let me tell you how to do it.buy PCI USB adapter with one internal USB port - something like this Ultra ULT40127 5 Port Hi-Speed USB 2.0 PCI Card - USB 2.0, 4 External Ports, 1 Internal, Mac & Vista Ready at TigerDirect.com and plug in (in the internal USB port) a USB cable from VFD.I dont know If power from PCI slot for VFD or different chipset on that USB card is the thing that makes everythig work but it does.Actualty when I start PES 2009 i can hear 2-3 times connect disconnect sound but then it stops and everythig works just fine. But there is one SO STRANGE thig that happens now. When I start PES 2009 in the settings manu now there are 3 joysticks on the screen and there should be 2.im not bothered by this but that is strange.respect.

My Computer

You say it is not a power issue - I beg to differ. I suspect your motherboard is not powering the onboard USB connections correctly....

Well it probably it is a power issue but not kind of an issue that a any stronger psu cant make a difference.i have tried also with 550W true power PSU but the same thing happened.i guess that when You connect several power/software hungry usb devices that problem happens.i have wireless keyboard and mouse, usb gemepad converter (2 Playstation2 joysticks on one USB adapter),VFD,card reader+front panel usb/1394 and front panel remote sensor.the thing is that even though i connect VFD to PCI usb card when I start PES 2009 random connect disconnect problem is againg happening but when I pres volume +/- button on the remote everything stops and everything is normal again (its like that somehow U have to confirm that the VFD/remote is present to the Imon software) but then the "third" gamepad shows up in the PES2009 settings menu?!so i think it can not be just the power issue but has to do with some kind of conflict between several USB devices and the VFD / remote control sensor (software).
regards,jova

Guys, New PCI->USB card is not solution.
I bought it and plugged in to motherboard. Then plugged in to this card usb from iMon and tested gamepad Logitech - was same conflict.
Mey be I reasign IRQ to several USB devices can help? How make this?
My hardware:
750W Thermaltake
Motherboard on chipset nForse 760 3-SLI
GeForce 260 GTX (one)
Case: Thermaltake DH102 (with touch LCD)

PS: As you see it is not power issue, it is driver conflict. This error is at first time to me, for 10 years, I wasn't seen like this error with USB hardware...

My Computer

Actualy i cant say that I was right about the PCI usb card BUT it has solved the problem for me.Actualy it has not solved the problem "by it self" and the same connect/disconect thing is happening again BUT when I press a volume button on the imon remote it seems like it somehow "confirms" to the imon software that "evereything is just fine my darling" and after that everything works without any problem.Funny thing is that after that "confirmation" the third joystick (gamepad) shows up in PES 2009 player settings.odd thing but it is true.if I find the time to make a movie Ill post it somewhere and inform U all about the link. But try this above mentioned.I assume that it cant be just my twilight zone :-).peace.
