That sucks, I had one from sunday night until last night....never had one last that long before. I get migraines though, so I was doing everything in my power to keep one from happening.

Today was kinda boring, went back to work after taking yesterday off.

Looking at my savings from quitting smoking.

10 days in = $60+ so far.

Just come out of that exam, "This Room will never come up as the given poem, it's too short!" It was the given poem, I didn't revise it, it was tough ...
To make it worse, I have English last lesson lol.

To those who smoke, I know you've heard it all before and are goiing to do what you please no matter what anyone says (as I did when I smoked), but take it from me that COPD is absolutely no fun whatsoever and while treatable to some degree, is esentially permanent and only gets worse (even if you do quit as I did July last year). It is constantly there and makes simple breathing difficult at all times - and any activity at all (even just doing the stairs or taking out the recyling) brings on a much worse attack that sometimes/often requires an emergency inhaler just to get back to the normal difficulty (and that can take 30-90 minutes depending on how much exertion was done). And that's just one of the bad things that can happen (cost aside).

But you're not going to listen to me any more than I listened to anyone else before this happened. I wish I had the words (or could make you experience this for just an hour so you'd know at least one of the many things you're risking), but I don't and can't.

I'm just now coming out my "invincible" phase, finally being old enough to see what the effects are form the things I do to my body. I don't really smoke by myself, as in, I don't buy cigaretts and smoke them... I usually end up smoking because a friend had a cigarett. It's just, my friends always have cigaretts, hence, I'm always smoking. lol. I've just been trying to take it one step at a time.

I have a friend who smokes. He knows about all the ill effects long term. He wakes up in the morning after a night of smoking and tastes the residue in his mouth (despite brushing the night before) and the smell in his clothes. But I can't seem to convince him to stop. He just has this impulsive side to him that lets him cave and buy a pack.

I was a social smoker--would only smoke with friends who regularly smoke, out at a night club or bar. It was mostly due to my best friend at the time who was a pack-a-day guy. But I quit... and I'm very glad I did. It took a while, but now when I get that once-in-a-year or so urge to try a cigarette, I'm confronted with the unpleasant qualities that overshadow any "benefit". I don't even sample any longer to confirm it.

It seems the best way to quit is to form an unpleasant association... whatever it takes, even if you have to pee on your own cigarettes to give them a nasty flavor.

I guess our perceptions of each other on the forum would be very different from reality.

Thanks for your advice, I think I'll skip the pee step, lol. But I agree with your suggestion on associating cigarettes with something bad. I just need to remember the feeling of not needing to cough 24/7, smelling good, and having sparkling white teeth! lol.

I've been packed up nearly 5 years, it will be next February, I found it quite easy after being a smoker for over 40 years smoking shop bought and rolling my own, I could smoke a couple of packs a day.

I've never suffered with a cough or anything like that and I certainly don't miss them or get the urge to want to start again.

You're very fortunate on several levels... one, being 21--such a great age with tremendous possibilities of life stretching out before you. Hopefully you're in good health and enjoying living in that wonderful part of the USA. I've visited Monterey and Carmel a few times and loved it there.

I'm glad to hear you're onto that "bad association" idea. Really, the sooner you stop, the better you'll be. A lot of people tend to believe the fallacy that if you quit later on, the damage reverses. Not completely true. There's the whole issue of carcinomas. You never know what cigarette will be the one to trigger it. It could be your next cigarette or 500 from now. Why chance it? There are plenty of other things you can do to get pleasure from, in place of a cigarette. It's just a matter of letting your frame of mind shift... and stay shifted. Good luck!
