I made this my 5,000th post.

That's a sign of true dedication to this Forum (and to helping others). There really should be something like a Platinum Badge or another form of recognition for such an achievement. What's also significant is that the vast majority of those posts deserved rep whether or not it was received.

That's three major milestones in just a few days - I suspect even you are played out for a while before the next major event (unless you're "expecting" and have kept that a secret from us - :D).

I hope I'm here to see 6000 and the next Medal and all the other good things to come. You, of all people, aren't allowed to "retire" from VF - even with the release of 8.

P.S. I guess this was another one you were looking forward to with anticipation if you planned number 5000 to be this particular post.

P.P.S. I also want to thank you for those posts because a great many helped me get where I am and also assisted me through some tough threads - as they did for many others I'm sure.

WOW!! I just noticed I got my third gold rep pip and I don't have the faintest clue how it happened as I only received rep from 3 newbies since I last checked and it seemed quite a ways away (at least several or a few weeks). But I'm surely not going to complain however it occurred (even if I have my suspicions) and appreciate it deeply.

Today is most certainly a day for celebration for Richard and me (and several others who also passed milestones recently (or will shortly as with Richard) that were posted here and elsewhere or at least messaged if I noticed). As some of you may know, I am somewhat disabled with COPD and can't work full time any more in my business, so I spend a great deal of time here (as most of you realize) doing essentially the same thing but only online instead of on-site as my business usually does.

That being the case, recognition here is every bit as important to me as a bonus or raise or promotion (well, I'm the business owner - so that last one isn't going to happen - but you get the idea). But as I've said before, 1 point of rep and some kind words from someone I helped (especially if I had to work hard at it) often means more to me than anything else. It's not the same even when I do exactly the same at work, because there I'm being paid and that diminishes the meaningfulness. And to be honest, I've bonded with many here moreso than most I employ - so recognition by you wonderful people, even after such a short time here, is one of the most rewarding things I currently enjoy.

Thanks to all who have helped me (and that's a pretty long list) in various ways (direct assistance, support, contributing posts where I was stuggling or missed something, rep, encouragement, thanks, congratulations, friendship, and more I can't think of at the moment). If I can ever help any of you, never hesitate to ask by any means you prefer and I'll do my best.

You to! I don't partake of it myself, but many do. A girl got abducted 2 years ago in my area to this very night (4 hours time infact) Our area has a massive problem with child abduction and abuse, as I outlined here: http://www.vistax64.com/chillout-room/275720-your-dream-car-5.html#post1296439
Conversation somehow swung round to it. What many, many people would give to have the person responsible locked up. He is incredibly skilled at evasion, and there are more than one. We have had several people locked up, and still it continues, including a school teacher.

To you as well - and everyone else. Halloween is my favorite holiday. I dress up in full costume (anyone who saw any of the Blade movies, think of that image complete with sword, guns, knives, bullet-proof vest, and everything) to answer the door. For those who haven't seen the movie, think SWAT but done even more extreme. Scares the heck out of the parents that accompany the children, but the kids mostly think it's cool.

Unfortunately, if we go anywhere I have to tone it down quite a bit (actually more than just quite a bit) or I'd be arrested upon sight. LOL!

Sorry Richard that things are so dangerous where you live. I've been living here over 20 years and haven't heard of a single incident like that (or even close) in our neighborhood or even those surrounding us. Then again, this is the USA and WE can be armed!!

And every child I know personally over 10 (and some younger) has attended, is attending, or soon will be attending martial arts training and many would be no easy targets - and some would even be a significant threat to the attacker even if a large, strong, physically-fit adult.

America is nice, but we do have a lot of crime depending on where you are at.

The city of Salinas, California, a ten minute drive from where I currently live, has a couple murders every week; and those are all 15 year old kids running around shooting each other. There's a lot of crime where I lived in Merced as well; car theft especially. Then there's the bay area where I'm moving... San Jose, Oakland, San Francisco, even more crimes, drugs, and higher murder rates!

Actually, things got so bad that our school brought some guy in to spend an afternoon with everyone over the age of 12, and teach us what he could. We know a very few basic things (best way to break out of a few common holds, a simple punch, and how to break a car window) but other than that it is just down to us. It is rural Surrey for heaven's sake! Anyway, I now work as a teenage representative of child abuse in this area, and I know everyone who has been assaulted in this area really well. You would have no idea how strong the bond is between our tightly knit group. We even have two 12 year olds in our midst. We also have quite a lot of training, and are actually a very successful pilot group for children re-integrating assaulted children back into the community.

Yes, I have heard of that. Murders are very rare in this area, as are stabbings, and car thefts. In most areas we are very nice, but child abuse and sexual assault just hits the ceiling.

I guess there isn't as much of that here cause that crime is usually looked down upon by the people in prisons and just everyone in general... so the molesters and such are usually killed in prison or on the streets.

I just cannot understand it! We have the occasional shed break in, someone had some paving tiles stolen from their patio, but these are not particularly big things (and I can list them one by one - not many) Yet when it comes to assult and abduction, it is a completely different story. We have some incident up to every fortnight, a major abduction, assault, and abandonment in some forest every month. Because of this, we actually have a very high child attempted suicide rate. Fortunately many of them fail (due to lack of experience - jumping from a 1st floor window is incredibly ineffectual) and still it happens. We have seen it all. We had a girl braid her hair to a big parked lorry's axle (delivering food to a supermarket) but she somehow managed to miss the wheels and just got pulled along behind it for quite some distance before a passer by managed to alert the lorry driver. And it all stems down to just one or two people.
