Today [2]

Holy Hell it was hot out today.

I went and redid my laptop(Windows7), getting rid of the user account that I was using and created a new one. One thing I found odd was that, while most of the stuff is there, programs like Chrome and the Workspace Email do not show up on the new account. everything else seems to be fine.
There's no trace of them as far as I can tell, but I haven't gone to the built in Admin account to check for sure.

Chrome is strange with how it installs, we found this out at work when we done our latest build image. It installs per-user, and once we'd run the sysprep command, the only 3 users left were root, local admin via policy and the built in admin. If you have a look in the appdata/local folder of the old account, if you've still got it, you'll see Chrome in there. Take a look HERE, you'll probably want to install it for all users, in case this problem happens again :)

I eventually went back into the admin account to see what was up, and sure enough, it was completely gone. Not the end of the world, I just reinstalled it.
I just found it odd that it was pretty much the only thing tat wasn't there when I created the new account.

I'm the only person that would ever use this laptop so it's not really an issue.....it was just kinda surprising.

^ Ah fair enough :)

Today, built 10 more machines from a stack of 60ish
2012-05-28093124.jpg

All dual-core 2.smthGHz, 3GB ram, 160GB hard drive, new student machines.
Also just clearing up from the 60mobo replacements, replaced old single-core AMD's @ 1GHz, 1/2GB ram with quad core 4.2GHz AMD 4GB ram boards. These old machines fly now.
Luckily enough we didn't have to re-image them all, that would have been a pain. Activation wise, the machines do it themselves.

About an hour ago, was sitting outside in the garden Skyping a mate, then BOOM thunder and lightening, we was right under a storm lmao.

Also, just seen THIS pop up on my facebook/twitter feed. It's happening, they're coming  :sarc:

I'll probably boot up my ASUS TF300T tablet later today after I get home. And start reading the book on creating my own Android Apps.

Also thinking about turning a cheap 'after Christmas sale' desktop into a linux firewall for my home network.

Nice! Let me know if you need anything testing, although I've got an HTC so the resolution may look funny.

Expensive firewall :p But it sounds really interesting, how would you do that?

Jell much? I've got the first one, the TF101. Awesome device, although ICS ruined it, but it seems that the update they done has fixed a few problems, like the crashes/battery drain/reboots.

Today, finished off one of our IT rooms, finally. Replaced the machines from Thin-Fat to proper computers. Decent specs too, can't remember them off hand, but it's something like 3GB ram, 3.smth GHz dual cores, 160GB drives.
We've got another 30-ish of them that are going to replace the first-gen RM One's, the ones without the slidey screens.

Tonight, I'm installing the Server 8 RC on a VM. Had some problems setting it up and actually getting it running, then I realised that Hardware Virtualisation or something was turned off on my BIOS. *Facepalm*

I'm also planning to set up my old computer as a webserver to test Joomba! with, I've got to move the schools sport center website across from one site to another, and before I start, I want to have a decent knowledge of how the package works. It looks quite simple, famous last words as he breaks the website lol.
Once I've sorted that, I'm going to set up a sub-domain from the CICA site and point it at my IP, then forward the webserver out, and hopefully create a better version of the Carnival site.

Also also! I should be getting my new servers on Wednesday! A couple of DL360's, same Gen as the one I have currently, and a couple of DL380 G3/4's! Then, soon after I should be getting the DL380 G7. All 5 machines are beasts, can't wait to get them home, install them up, buy a nice rack, then throw them in!

We should be getting the Solar Panels soon too, hopefully!
Just a little update over at my end :D

Forgot to link a picture here, so HERE, there's the picture lol.

I got the desktop for about $200 with a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

I know I can, but haven't looked it up yet, that I can make a bootable dvd and add another nic card in it. Anyone hacks in, they cannot save their changes to the dvd. I'll make sure the dvd device plays only.

I'm mostly going to be doing that, and learning how to make apps, as I spend more time doing paperwork at work than fixing computers though that might change before fall of this year.

And one thing I learned today. If the 'standby' light is lit on my cable modem, push the standby button on top of it and my connection will become Its Alive ! again. Good thing I was talking to the ISP's auto-trouble shooter nistead of a flesh person. Otherwise I would have been very embarressed.

Yeah, too much paperwork has dulled my computer skills. Argh.

Bump!!

Got my new servers today!
I've now got, 2 DL360 G3's and a G2. Specs are Dual Xeons @ 2.8GHz, one has 4GB ram, other 2 have 1GB, and the G2 is a single P3, 1GB ram.
I think one of the G3's with 1GB ram is going to my dads mate for a while so he can test it and stuff

Inside of the G2,

Yeah, I've got something like 14 weeks of summer holidays to look forward to :) So it's not all bad. If you don't mind me asking, what subjects have you gone with? Do you have an idea of what you want to do as a career yet?

14 weeks?!
I'll probably be working alot of that lol. Still got a room of 32 machines to replace. That was what we was supposed to be doing Thursday/Friday but we was missing a load of Y splitter kettle leads, so mh.

Today, installed the latest version of Ubuntu on a spare 500GB.
I'm planning to use Ubuntu as a main OS, then run windows inside Virtually. I've read that I can use my current installation as a virtual machine and still be able to boot to it if I want to, just gotta find the time to research and actually do it.

//EDIT
Just noticed the new badge Tom, congrats!!!

I'm trying to talk myself into/outof writing an Android app for some old paper and pencil games I played back in the 1980s. Seems Android apps are XML files... no experience with that. Got two books, so... maybe I've talked myself into try to do this.

Yeah, I've got something like 14 weeks of summer holidays to look forward to So it's not all bad. If you don't mind me asking, what subjects have you gone with? Do you have an idea of what you want to do as a career yet?
No I don't mind you asking. I've chosen: English literature, language and media, Maths, Triple Science, History, German and Computing. Also doing the compolsery R.E short-corse and COPE (ASDAN | CoPE - Levels 1 and 2).

In terms of a career, I have no idea as long as it involves tech/computers somewhere.

Nice, Science was always one of my favourite subjects, next to IT of course.

Career, I'd defiantly, 100%, undoubtedly go down the apprenticeship route, both the school and college have been amazingly supportive, and they've been offering me everything they think I'm capable of.
I've been doing it since late October last year on a 12 month contract. In that time I've passed an MTA Network Fundamentals, an IT Practitioners course, and I'm half way through a CompTIA A+, then I've got a couple more quals before the end of the contract.
The school I'm working at are really pleased with how it's going, they've signed me up for another 18 months to do the level 3 course once I've finished the current course.

THIS is the course I'm doing currently. Technically, I'm an MCP, I think.

An apprenticeship sounds interesting, just depends where. I'm still uncertain of what I'm going to do. I need to give it some serious thought soon though.

Those are some good qualifications and things you've got there. I'm better on the software side of things but I'm working on hardware. I'm also terrible at networking! Over at SF I'm currently undergoing BSOD training by writhziden which is going quite well.

//EDIT
Just noticed the new badge Tom, congrats!!!

Yeah, uni starts on something like the 1st October and I break up on the 22nd June. I've just added it up, it comes to about 14.5 weeks :D Yeah, I'm going to need to work a lot of this as well - I'm planning on building my own PC and I've gone a little over the top with the specs...

Thanks for the congrats :) It was a nice surprise when I woke up to see a new badge, I thought that the gold member badge was the last one that I would get!
