If I ever get off my lazy but and pull out the computer to take a picture of mine then I will post it.

I know the feeling, took awhile for me too!

My desk! I forgot to turn on flash but it'll do, main rig is behind monitor's and the screen on the fair left is my server.

Oh yea, last pic, is my old antec 900 case, that I am in progress of cleaning and changing out the mobo from the stryker 2 to the maximus mobo.

Nice setup! How did you like the striker 2 extreme? I just ordered it;)

Great! I read a couple of bad things about it, that it was just bling-bling fancy and no real performance. I'll post a picture when the whole new system is done here!;)

I finally took some pictures yesterday when I installed the Creative Titanium card. The picture is with out the crossfire jumper installed but I had to remove it to install the card. The PCIEx1 would not fit but the PCIEx4 slot was just fine.

Two more office settings for y'all to enjoy! First one is near a waterfall in Rocky Mtn Natl Park, and the second one is the viewing area for Old Faithful. I chickened out of trying to get a shot with the eruption going on - too much chance of the wind blowing the wrong way and then my needing to deal with the aftermath. :D

I wouldn't say the sulfur bothered me, but I definitely noticed it. Of course there are areas here in Texas near some of the oilfields that are as bad or worse.

As for the "big blow" of the Yellowstone caldera, if it's a major eruption, the difference between being on the spot versus anywhere west of the Mississippi river is just a couple hours in terms of survivability...

Personally, I figure it WON'T happen when I'm there because then I'd have a historic (if posthumous) photo, and the universe isn't setup to give me that kind of fame :D

Sorry EwanG there is no way to run a PC in the sticks out there. There is no power or even people there. Even a laptop with satellite will not get connected. When you are there you step back in time over 100 years!

This rig was my pride and joy when I went for an overclocking spree, i managed to get it at 5.8Ghz stable and running. The processor was a E8190 @2.66Ghz so I thought I did a decent overclock on that bad boy
Scored some liquid nitrogen from my mate doing a PHD in Pharmaceuticals, so for his "chemistry" he "needed" liquid nitrogen, so that was cool

no way you should ever pour it directly onto the CPU shim! not liquid nitrogen, ive seen people do it, but Im not rich enough to buy a new mobo after overclocking my stuff for a day of two. for me I had to make sure that the copper/steel hollow blocks wouldnt expand or crack from the extremity of the intense cold, some metals are crap for that, I also didnt want any liquid nitrogen to leak... so I made it incredibly thin at the base of the structure [_] but not enough to allow a leak. I wasnt certain on the effect it would have on the CPU if it leaked. I'll leave that secret to the world over clockers. I designed the LNE's (liquid nitrogen enclosures) when overclocking was just a little niche' when I was 15 at metal work in school, but I didnt get my new mobo until I was 18, so I had these LNE heat pipe things in my room for a while. But then I used them :)

One guy I knew screwed his motherboard to an esky (dont know if you guys have them over in england, we use them heaps here, take em on BBQ's to keep your beers cold etc) poured liquid ethanol until the esky was full and then ran his Mobo and over clocked it. I didnt think that it could be possible, but he definitely did his research on that one. It was remarkable

i realise you need to protect your mobo parts :p i expect the nitrogen would split the capacitor cases etc

but what do you have on your cpu ? where you would usually put the heatsink?

i have read up a little on the subjct of liquid nitrogen i came acros it years ago before i started overclocking ....... when i was doing my research and ive seen the you tube vids of the overclocking with nitrogen , do the temp sensors work on the cpu at such low teperatures?

I have never trusted the temperature sensors of motherboards, everything in this environment is just sooo incredibly volatile to the point of scary, that you just dont want to stuff anything up, you know. this was a few years ago, so you do check the temp sensors in the bios, but you cannot trust it. you're better off having the rig raised a bit (i've found) so with your infrared handheld thermometer (picked mine up from ebay for 20US) you can properly determine the heat temps from your rig. the parts to check are northbridge (pre LGA1366 Socket), CPU, GPU, Ram.
So for example; for the CPU you would check both on the side of the heatsink and underneath the motherboard where the CPU isnt connected to a cooling element, to see if its cold or heating up too much on the opposite side.

But you also have to pick the day as well (especially here in Australia, where its extremely hot) because humidity will play a factor as well and this could mean anything from condensation to extreme heat, both having extreme effects on your rig. Its a one day kind of thing, and you just have to realise that you cant have something running stable like that for too long

OK, so Liquid Nitrogen is a "fun" test of what you can do, but isn't real practical on an ongoing basis. I've seen plenty of water cooled setups, but that only helps a bit. Is there something between water and liquid nitrogen that can be used on an ongoing basis that will allow long term OC beyond the norm?

yeah there is, you get an airconditioner and you rig it up to your rig so that it is the one massive box. (radiators I think they call them). you can get a 2nd hand aircon (one of the poke out of your window boxed ones for less than 50 bucks someplaces)

I build a rig like that, and I still dont get any rep.... I feel like such an outcast.. :( I did it all for nothing.
