service pack 1 error

ok first of all what is exactly,are these those fix.reg files?-i found 2 of them on D:\ and i deleted them
next i downloaded Packs4 and i puted on D:\
i booted from windows recovery disc but when i tried to enter it said that he can't find a path to this file or smthng.
are you wrote it corectly? confing? i tried also with config but still nothing
then i shutted down the laptop from WinRe and when it started again before entering my laptop password it appeared blue screen with this message

STOP:c0000218{Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive(file)
\System Root\System32\Config\COMPONENTS
or its log or alternate
It is corrupt,absent,or not writable

and something beneath this to contact admin or technical support

i shutted down laptop because i couldn't do anything else,and when i booted again it was said that i have to enter the disc and choose repair computer,ok i did it and it was working fine and when the boot was over i had to install some updates:

update for microsoft search enhancement pack
update for microsoftxml core services 4.0 service pack 2(kb973688)
security update for microsoftxml core services 4.0 service pack 2(kb954430)
definition update for microsoft security essentials kb972696
and bing bar 6.0?

Of course,it was here my stupid error with letter.You have right.It should be:

ren D:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS COMPONENTS.OLD

Sorry for my mistake,I corrected my post 60 too.

I can't explain exactly why you had problem with loading hive,it was packed and should not be corrupted.My error shouldn't caused any problem too.Above command only create backup of old COMPONENTS file for precaution and no more.

If you did line with robocopy command too (it ddin't return any error),then everything should be fine now.

From your description I think everything is working fine now,but of course to have evidence you need to run Readiness Tool again,if it return empty CheckSur.log file that means everything is fixed and you are ready to install SP1 standalone version.

Because you already created COMPONENTS.OLD when you done this command before.If you did line with robocopy command too before,it didn't return any error you don't need to do anything in WinRE -leave it.Still I have your old COMPONENTS file on my computer if it will be needed.

Now I understand why you had issue with COMPONENTS before.In this situation yes you have to boot to WinRE and do a bit defferent command

Again.Boot Vista DVD
Choose language>>Repair Computer>>WinRE>>command prompt

and type:

ren D:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS COMPONENTS.OLD2

//it will create the second copy as COMPONENTS.OLD2//
press ENTER

robocopy D:\Packs4 D:\ /E /IS

press ENTER

man still nothing,still the same error here is what i did

after i entered the first command i received no message
the second command i entered it 3 times because the first 2 times i didn't enterd correctly (i didn't put space between /E and /IS),after 3rd time it was running a long list and i think it ended ok because was no errors in the end so i don't know

i ran Readiness Tool before trying to intall SP1

Unfortunately I can't explain it . Theoretically it should work but it doesn't .

1.Enable in msconfig (Start>>Search>>msconfig) safe mode

Open msconfig,in the system configuration choose Boot tab,there choose safe boot and next and below choose Minimal,apply and restart computer

2.After reboot try again install SP1 standalone version

If it fail too,I give up,no clue and no more idea

I googled to compare similar issue and no one know sure solution.Sometimes it corelate with damages visible in CheckSur.log, but fixing damages in CheckSur.log is not enough to solve problem

In place Upgrade probably always can fix this error but as I said in any previous post you cannot apply this

I only found these below solutions where persons declared solve theirs problem

1.On one polish forum someone declared that this issues probably caused by additional language packs

-If you have installed any extra language packs then uninstall them and try again

2.Another person declared that this issues probably caused by wireless hub

Hm...you've right.You have problem with Vista Ultimate (retail version),not with system from Fujitsu.I bit lost in your thread .Of course you can try in-place upgrade

i setted all to english united states type mui in regional and languages.i had also before romanian because that's my beautifull country but i don't remember what i did exactly to remove it(i think it's removed 'cause i don't see it anywhere anymore)...anyway all was displayed in english from the start,since i installed Vista Ultimate

I think you correctly removed language packs and it didn't affect on installation.

From the net there are also retail versions....

In this situations only solution is fresh installation,and of course I suggest to buy full legal version if you really need the second system,IMO in this case the best way to buy Windows 7 of course...
