Reputation Points

Over the last few days it has become clear that some members are misusing the reputation system, this misuse makes the ranking system totally worthless.

From now on any member that I find begging for rep or randomly giving rep for useless posts will have 50 points deducted for the first offence, second offence will lead to that member having their reputation and rank disabled.

If this fails to work I will disable the rep and ranking system for all users and revert to manually promoting users that deserve it.

Understood. I give rep, if I feel the poster deserves it.

I've seen abuses of rep systems at other forums, and I've seen most forums, won't even use reputation systems anymore.

EDIT: I was looking for a post I know I made earlier, but looking for "posts made by" only returns 200 hits. Is this a forum restriction or have I really made 94 posts that have been hidden?

The forum is set to only show your last 200

There's something I would like to see eliminated. That is when you give somebody bad rep, allowing them to turn around and give you the same. I had this happen to me recently, as the person I gave bad rep to, felt that person deserved it.

Wild Eagle You know if we all added up our points that and 10 dollars would get one of us in to the movies. Basicly all they do is give someone an idea on who gives good advice. But a expert at Networking may not know squat about software.

Maybe the rep (good or bad) could be made anonymously, that way no one feels like recipricating the actions (good or bad). Only show you which thread/post the rep was given and no other mention of who gave the rep out.

I give rep for a good article someone posts or to a post someone makes that helps me.

Off topic: Is there anywhere that shows the ranks and how much rep is needed to acheive them?
