Questions of Vista,RAM and errors

the spd on Kingston show that it is running on 1,8volts on 200MHz 266MHz and 333MHz even though I choose 2volts in the bios I attached screen shot of the spd for the Kingston kit

No offense, but IIRC, that page shows what the SPD values *are* - not what you are actually *running*.

It's reading those SPD values directly off the RAM, and these are the values that would be used if the BIOS were set to auto for those settings.

That is not a real time Voltage/ because there is no way your RAM can run at 3 different speeds simultaneously....

okay. then I have misunderstood. no matter.... I have now set latency,ra to cas, ras precharge and tras from the Kingston chips. seems like are now running dram frequency 402MHz, also attached. I am unable to find where I can set the dram ratio but I have found the cpu ratio but I figure that is not what you mean. sorry to be such an pain in your ass

If the Kingston stick(s) are in then this is the result you're looking for: 400MHz DDR. Well done... now don't mess it up, lol. :p

Re-reading the thread got me wondering about something you said:
the spd on Kingston show that it is running on 1,8volts on 200MHz 266MHz and 333MHz even though I choose 2volts
I just took your word for it that cpuid reported 2 volts. The screens you later posted do not show 2 volts; they show 1.8, which is why I asked that you set voltage for 1.8. You are at 1.8 volts, right?

Like I said before we began this exercise, I think it's going to tell us what the problem isn't. If you can't boot up now with all 4 sticks, then the memory, per se, wasn't really your problem; although, it was good that you set voltage and timings manually because MSI asked you to do so for stability/performance.

I set the volts in the motherboard setup to 2volts. Should I decrease this to 1,8volts?

Yes, give it 1.8 volts.

I'm still looking for the screenshot that told you the Kingston ran at 2 volts. :geek:

Hehehehe actually it stood 2volts on the chip itself and not on any screens. but hey I´m just the newbie here ;) I´ll try to decrease volts to 1,8 and try with all 4GB

Ask FUMZ and xguntherc how many questions I had just 2 months ago when I built this rig....

Well I have now tried to lower to 1,8 volts and tried with all 4 chips in. But that was not pleasent, computer refused totally to do anything. With all chips in and 1,8volts: I did not get so much as a picture on my screen. with 3chips in and 1,8volts: computer refused to enter windows, freezed on the windows progress bar, gave me bluescreens. with 3chips and 1,9volts: after a while and about 4 reboots I finally came into windows

I am confused? When you leave it on auto, the board gives the RAM 1.8 volts. When you set it to 2.0 volts, the board gives the RAM 1.8 volts, but when you manually enter 1.8 volts the board won't boot?

*sigh* ok. Let's go back to what was working last. Enter in 2 volts. reboot with 3 sticks. Make sure the 3 work at least as well as they did a few posts up when you were at 400MHz. Try 4 sticks. When that doesn't work, go back to 3 while you do research on those MSI links I gave.

When you're ready to flash the bios, make sure you only have 1 kit of RAM in and make sure you load the optimized defaults. You do not want an unstable rig when flashing your bios.

hehe. One thing I have learned about computers: dont try to understand it just fix it ;) I have tried with all 4gb in and 2volts. it ran through the bios but did not load windows. also it stoped when I tried to run it in safe mode.

Hi. I am ready to flash. Have made the usb boot thing. I loaded the fail safe defaults, cause when I loaded the optimized defaults it did not enter windows just stoped and gave me a black screen. I have only one kit in and ready to flash.

Hi, we were getting worried about you. :p Are you sure you're ready to flash? Your previous post said you waited 36 hours for something? What ever is going on with that situation, it ain't right.

I would be very careful. If you have not done everything right we could have a big problem. Head back over to the MSI site and double check the instruction against what you did. Be 100% certain you did everything as directed. Be 100% certain you've got the correct bios. Print out the directions so you can refer to them during the flash.

reason that it took that long was my own stupidity. I ran the tool without unpacking the rar properly, after I unpackked the rar it took just a couple of minutes. I have downloaded the newest version of the bios.

OK, good to hear. I've got a match right now... somehow I got hooked up with an Australian 1942 clan to play some matches, and 2am start times are the Gods way of telling me I play too much. :p.. so I won't be here to help you for a while.

In the meantime, I strongly urge you to go over MSI's instructions on how to flash their bioses. Read it, print it, then read it again. When you're done, read it one more time. Also make sure you've set the boot order correctly setting the USB stick to boot up first. Once that's done, you should be good to go.
