Dont need it myself. All that I have suggested it to, were happy with the results.

not sure if it will work in a similar way but in norton i have a startup items manager where you can turn items on/off in start up or delay them in start up ? is that a similar thing?

That is just an automatic way of doing a clean boot or selective start up.
Did you try in safe mode?

If it works ok in Safe Mode and not clean boot, most likely an important driver is the problem.

when you say if not working how do you mean? (will it be obvious/noticable) and will it be easy to put back to normal mode while there are problems if there are problems

Look for the problems that you been having. If they do not occur we know the probable cause.

well it certainly booted quicker in safe boot. but i assume thats because it had less to do but still slow opening programs but no (not responding messages) as yet
however there were still quite a lot of errors and warnings inthe event viewr considering it had only just been turned on when i done the safe boot

If its still slow, could be a basic driver or hardware. Since you had the problem for a while, I would guess hardware.

have only noticed slow down after re-install of os? wich is strange i thought it would speed it up getting rid of all the acer bloatware?

Sometimes cirucumstances make diagnosis difficult. If you have a bad hard drive it has to go sometime. If it goes after an install, human nature blames the install but who knows and maybe its not the drive; let us see.

i can appreciate that its hard passing info across in messages etc and especially when ur dealing with someone with limited knowledge such as myself must be hard work.
