Ok i think i hit max overclock set it to 260mhz (i can go up by 2mhz segments) and vista would not load, went back to bios screen and said something about dram timing (would like to now if this can be fixed so i can go higher or not).

so i set it back down to 250mhz and vista loaded perfect

so overclocked, and stable at 3.25GHZ

which i am not going to complain from stock 2.6ghz to 3.25ghz

no the cpu max internal clock is 3.3ghz (according to 3dmark06). have not played with the memory settings yet, not sure how to do that as this is my true first cpu that has been worth trying to overclock.

everything i have done has just been to the cpu in the bios.

everything i have done has just been to the cpu in the bios.

AMD rigs differ slightly from intel in regards to OCing, instead of FSB i think they have a HT link.

if you never touched you RAM settings then its fair to assume your RAM speed is increasing as you raise the CPU speed..... hopefully an AMD OCer can confirm this..

but i wouldn't bother touching the RAM frequency, its pretty high for ''pc5300'' as it is......
you could try & change the timings from CL5 to CL4 (it may need a voltage boost, but be careful RAM is always the first component to die), personally i'd leave it where it is until you get faster sticks.

Sounds good i am happy with the results. nice and stable runs everything perfect still, even when i use it to game the temps hardly move.

and by hardly i mean hardly they go from 30 - 33 idle to 33 - 36 running a game.

and i am not talking a little cheap kids game either. currently running prototype.

Ok so i got an MSI K9N SLI V2
AMD Phenom x4 9850 Black Edition 2.5Ghz stock OC'd 13% to 2.8Ghz
8GB's Of Ram OZC SLI Edition PC 6400 OC'd to 900Mhz
Timings tras 13 /tcd 5/trp 5/trc 15/twr 6/trrd 5/trwt 6/twtr 3/trdrd 3/twrwr 3
FSB 225.
XFX 8600GT in SLI x2 stock 620Mhz DDR3 800Mhz 256MB
Its a modest system I dont want to risk ocing the v-cards they are kind of expensive, as far as the CPU i could go as high as 3Ghz but there is no use for me to get more out of it, besides here in Puerto Rico the temperatures are in the 80s and 90s all year round, the heat is my enemy.
I have loaded my PC case with several fans already, and at least they are helping to prevent a meltdown.

Yes!! the ram clock will go up a little when ozing an amd rig. its a little tricky to do this because when raising the fsb the whole system gets oz'd. unless you are able to only raise the cpu's internal clock. Black Edition AMD cpus come with an ulocked cpu clock.
when ocing ram timings in an AMD rig make take in cosideration that if you already ocd the fsb the ram cloxk is oc'd to. so when tunning the timings in your ram do it little by little. it can be tedious work but finding the best combination os numbers is all we worth it in the end. And most inportant is to have an stable system. i Rather have a modestly OC'd and stable system than a super oc'd an unstable one.

mine is good and stable and 3.25ghz if i go any higher vista still loads fine, but it crashes when i load games up.

So i guess is not so stable then,
I played around ocing my rig, 1st vista wound not load, i lower the clocks in the cpu, finally it loaded by just raising the hyper treading to 225mhz, games loaded and ran fine, then i took the time to oc the ram, this is trial and error, what works for some may not work for all.
When doing the ram oc you may encounter with some undesireble behavior but just twik it down untill you find the sweet spot. where performance is good and everything works great.
Its just my word of advice...
