Post the changes you notice after installing Vista SP2

I installed SP2 today on vistax64 HP DV7 Laptop

the only problem I had was a game had no sound. I disabled sound enhancements and the sound is back. Windows sounds worked fine.. just not that game. I suspect it updated the IDT HD sound card drivers. I know windows update used to hound me to update it in the past.

Also hit 100 degrees on reboot when it was sitting on the bed and I walked away! I've left it on the bed in the past and it would idle at 58 degs. It must have been working hard on reboot.

thank god it didn't load IE8. I just uninstalled that last week, because typing text in a form box like this had such LAG (OMG!) that I could see anything I was typing. MSN online gamezone didn't have chat anymore either on IE8

I'll google how to defrag from a command prompt and see if that helps boot times. Other than that I do see programs loading much faster.

Oh yeah I also uninstalled the AV portion of Comodo, but kept the firewall. Had too many problems with Comodo anyway.

Hello,

I installed Service Pack 2 a week ago now and the only problem I had was having to reset my side bar gadgets due to some display problems. Since they have been reset, everything is OK. The service pack took about an hour total to download and install. I am still having some small problems with Vista that don't appear to be fixed with SP2, where I get "... has stopped working" messages, but I am thinking there are things going on under the hood that are improved.

Wow, it took that long to install? I could not believe it but sp2 only took about 15 min. to install on my computer. So far, I have restarted and I have not seen that error again. It was really strange...Everything seems to be working just fine. I still don't have IE8 though. I am not ready to do that yet. I don't think HP or microsoft fixed the problem with web printing and I really love using that function.

My biggest issue since the latest windows vista updates is the following ( and its VERY ANNOYING )

I have constant issues with the Realtek Notificiation tool. Since the latest Vista updates 2 days ago I suddenly also get this warning that my notification tool no longer works on my Acer Aspire 6930. I have also tried re-installing the Realtek audio drivers from the official Acer support website, the sound works ok but I constantly keep getting the message YOUR REALTEK NOTIFICATION TOOL NO LONGER WORKS , then it supposedly searches for solutions, doesnt find solutions and then you need to click the warning away. So what am I supposed to do to remove this absurd warning every time we start up the laptop ? PS, I also tried reinstalling new Nvidia drivers but that didnt work either

The only change I see is the loooooong startup. It's a nightmare, really. It used to load A LOT faster with SP1, but now I have to wait forever. And it's been almost two weeks already. How do I fix this? I don't want to wait 2 minutes for my system to load, when I had it done in 1 before... Crappy update, that's what SP2 is. And don't give me that "remove all unnecessary programs from startup" bulls**t, cause it's LAME. SP2 sucks.

Have you tried, restoring your computer back to SP1 and then making sure that you don't have any running programs, and close your antivirus, etc... while you update to SP2? Try again, and see if it helped. Maybe something went wrong the first time? That doesn't sound right...

Hi Carnifex,

You might be better doing a clean install using the integrated .iso.

My installation is very fast and responsive - even boots faster than 7.

It took a few start ups to get up to speed - now it's superb.

I as well noticed a slower boot, but after i wake my laptop from sleep mode, it seems to take longer to get online ( i have dsl, and a router) and my wireless is integrated so i guess i have to change some settings. other than that its pretty much the ame with sp1 no major changes

A clean instal is not the solution. I don't want to start from scratch each time Windows has the hickups. Well, it did freeze while installing, but went smoothly the second time. Maybe i'll try a rollback... if I'll figure it out. Would uninstalling SP2 have the same effect?

My Computer

Hooray! I solved the problem... NOT! Re-installing SP2 had no effect whatsoever. Nevermind, seems I'm stuck with a slow-loading system, that used to be fast BEFORE the "improvement".
