NVIDIA slashes price of GTX 260 and 280 GPUs

p.s. Jamull you should put ur Pc Specs in ur Sig.. go to User CP at the top left. and on the left side where it says Edit signature. Just so we know what you have when you say comments like why you chose Nvidia.. just so we know what you actually have..

haha, i will once i get my pc built and running tonight :P I don't want to count my chickens before they're hatched if you know what I mean...

Edit: UPDATE: I got my rig together and it is sweet! I started up Crysis and put it in Very High Settings and it was gorgeous :)

I'd just leave it there actually now I think bout it. and everything runs great.. You're system is pretty close to mine. same board, same Videocard. My CPU is one above.. you have a good system I see.. cuz mine's the same almost. lol. Good luck. and enjoy

one of the main reasons I chose Nvidia over ATI is that Nvidia cards run Age of Conan much better than ATI cards do. Although that was back in June, so if there was a patch that changed that, I'm unaware of it and apologize :P

I found most Nvidia cards run games better than ATI. ATI can probably bench better than Nvidia, but I find Nvidia plays better.

update: been playing AoC on max everything settings and it's really great looking! Never once experienced slowdown or any of the problems everyone seems to be whining about on AoC forums (memory leaks, crashes, etc). I read some of the Conan short stories by Robert E. Howard (Conan's creator) and they were great. Having some background from those has made the game much more enjoyable and I'm only in the starting area still haha. btw sorry for getting off topic but figured I should follow up on how everyone's advice worked :D

The 4870's look very impressive, and you certainly can't complain about the ATI/AMD pricing; however, the main reason why I'm still going with nVidia is driver support. nVidia has always been very good at regularly pushing out newer more polished drivers. ATI, meh... not so much.

I prefer ATI, because I have less problems on my machine. Worst Nvidia chipset motherboard, I came across was the 680i ASUS P5N32-E SLI that thing has problems like you wouldn't believe, I saw this on the official ASUS forums.

I got disgusted towards last with driver issues with the GeForce 8800GTS, and bailed out of that sucker in April.

The cards are good, the Mobo's are not that great.. We see what you mean with the board. but thats no reason to jump ship on the GFX card also. just cuz the Mobo is no good. unless you want CF.. then you need to abandon NV also.

I had driver problems with the 8800GTS too. The problems included BSOD's a few times, and that really ticked me off.

Check your motherboard 12V rails with a mutlimeter when you are gaming. Clean out the video card fan. Add extra chassis fans. Use Nvidia tools to put the video card fan to 100% constantly. Add/remove the drivers. Use a driver cleaner to remove the drivers from ATI and Nvidia. Reboot. Reinstall new drivers.

When I got my 3870X2 I sold the last 8800GTS to a friend who ended up rmaing the motherboard, and putting both the 8800GTS's in to do an SLI gaming system. I sold him my four 1GB DDR2 800 DIMMS, when I went to 8GB's of ram. He isn't having no problems, because he is still running Windows XP.

The fans were running 100% when I had the parts without having to use a 3rd party program, and whenever I changed drivers, I would always delete the Nvidia folders, and Nvidia registry entries related to the card.

Another thing I don't like is that it took Nvidia over 3 months to fix a bug I reported to them in their WindowsXP drivers.

Nvidia videocards are good, but the drivers do need a little more work. It came out earlier this Spring that Nvidia's drivers are the cause of whopping 30 percent of the BSOD's on Windows Vista. This came out as part of the Vista Capable lawsuit that's still going right now and the last I heard, the Discovery Phase, ie the gathering of evidence was still going on.

One of the main reasons it's takes like Nvidia so long to fix a bug is because they try to replicate the bug themselves. If they can't replicate it, then obviously they will take longer to fix it because they won't know exactly what they're fixing.

I had more trouble with my 7600's in SLI on Vista, had that constant driver has stopped responding when playing certain games. I then bought my 8800GTS and uninstalled the 7 series drivers, put the 8800 in and put the 8 series drivers on. Had a few blue screens, but formatted my PC and installed drivers again and it's ran fine ever since. Not one blue screen.
I did read though if you upgrade to an 8 series card from a 6 or 7 series, there is a chance you could have to format your PC to avoid certain issues, which I agree isn't very practical.
