hi,

Look in your Bios for a sound & enable the setting, fully reboot & test. Then reboot again this time the Bios setting returns to "Auto". See pictures: -

Hey just noticed the realtek audio manager is telling me i have headphones and a mic plugged into the front ports and this is not true as my monitor is plugged into the green port at the back and "nothing!!" is plugged into the front .......... what would cause this false settings? is that whats stopping me from getting sound? is my pc telling me my sound is not coming through as it is on headphones that are invisible and not plugged in????

Hi & thank you for that.

One last point: -

Change the bottom setting & leave the top one. Plug in & then remove a device to the front socket,

OK,

That sounds as though the socket has got damaged & is still indicating their presence, even though they have been removed.

Replacement is all you can do there?

Sorry, I didn't feel like looking through 6 pages of comments to see if you tried this. I know it sounds incredibly stupid, but make sure your volume isn't muted or anything :) we all have those stupid moments, just wanted to make sure you covered that. If not, good luck, they've already told you everything I would know to do.
