Uninstall that driver, from device manager.
Save the driver that you want to the desktop or documents
Unattach everything, except speakers, keyboard, and mouse
Now try to install, still does not work, try in safe mode.
Be sure to reboot after install and uninstalls

ok i went to the realtek site and downloaded the driver ( i think it was the correct one) i then uninstalled the microsoft high def driver and rebooted my pc. I took out my internet connection then I then opened it in safe mode and tried to upload the realtek driver from my desktop

It then told me it was corupt so and the microsoft driver then came back. I then deleted it in safe mode and rebooted again. Once the pc was back on hey presto the microsoft high def driver came back.

I have no idea the correct driver to download and i cant stop the microsoft driver from uploading again. After 7 hours this is going from bad to worse

yeah still not working i tried to install a realtek and it says windows could not verify the source so i couldnt let it install i have no idea what driver to install now i think i will give up for tonight and try again tomorrow thanks for all your help rich im either a real dumbass or something is seriously wrong

Remember Im not there to touch and see your computer. All I can do is send you instuctions that I think will solve the problem. Read them slowly, be sure that you are doing it correctly.

ok so i go tit reinstalled back to the original realtek driver from my manufacturers page. Unfortunately it still says my speakers are unplugged

OMG its so simple I missed it. Go back with system restore to the point before you tried to make Vista better. Go back a few days before..

tried that mate thats one of the first things i tried i have done it twice now even going so far back as 2 weeks ago it didnt help. So its not a driver problem im stumped.... i take it you dont know how to turn the speakers back on as i cant set it to default

yeah doing so just now so far it says it has a corrupt file that it cannot fix

Send me the cbs log and Ill have another analyze it.
but run it 3 times first. Does not fix all at once.

it says access denied when i try to find out what file is corrupted. It seems like a big process and beyond my meager abilities.... i wish there was a post somewhere online just telling me how to turn on the speakers to default again
