No sound on any jack

Hi, today i tried to set up a surround sound system on my PC....when it didn't work i just put it back to using the speakers on my monitor. However now i have no sound at all coming from the speakers.

No sound through the headphone socket either.

I am not a computer expert but have basic knowledge, have checked device profiles and found Realtek Digital Output entry, along side this it shows a bar of lights which bounce up and down in line with the song i had playing. So all seems to be running ok but no sound. Is this the right device though? When i check properties it shows black coloured output and says ATAPI internal jack.

Strangely there is another entry above that saying Realtek speakers, then a note saying not plugged in. If i check properties it says Realtek Hi Def Audio with all the colour jacks, but there is no way to enable it or make it default. Next to symbol it has red arrow pointing down.

Any guidance or help would be appreciated

Probably a driver issue
Go to search and type the words device manager
In device manager look for any yellow warning markers or any trees that are in the open position
If none make sure that your audio drivers are up to date.

thanks rich but all drivers are working fine i have even deleted and re installed new drivers so its not that i'm afraid.

With the realtek problem, were you in an administrtor account?

yeah i believe so i just cant enable the damn speakers grrrrrrr

Can you try another jack?
Have other speakers for a test?

no sound coming from the headphone jack either and i tried the headphones in the green jack in the back but no use either i have even changed cables i just wish the speakers could re enable the speakers to default i have been online for about 4 hours trying to find a fix

thanks i ran it it says there is no headphones or speakers plugged in but they clearly are i have my headphones in the front and the monitor is in the audio jack at the back this has been the same settings for the last couple of years

Based upon what you have learned, I think its a driver. Uninstall the driver in Device manager and then download a new one.

yeah thanks rich have tried that since we last spoke.... no further forward this is now what i have...saying headphones and speakers not plugged in i see the atapi jack is working how do i use that???

We are not after the best drivers at this point, just one that works.
Go to device manager uninstall audio drivers and then install again.

its taking an age this time to download the new drivers will post when they are back up and running (fingers crossed)

I think that your drivers are the wrong ones or corrupt. I hope that this works.

i think my brain is frazzled i cant seem to download and set up the drivers its not working :'(

Just take your time, uninstall the driver. Boot the computer. Then install the new one

ok every time i try to download and set up the realtek audio driver and i reboot my system installs the microsoft HD audio driver and i have no idea why. this is going from bad to worse thanks for your help but im about to hit my head against the nearest wall

which driver do i download i dont want the microsoft HD one i want the one i had before the realtek one before i deleted the driver....
