Help! Vista Freezing!

I am unable to do the test without freezing.

It seems that the freezing is happening within 8 hours now. But, it was pretty warm in my room yesterday and my window was open. Now it is not so now I will try it once more.

Running orthos 2 times does not use all the CPU either, only the first two and sometimes the 3rd and 4th go up

Its on AUTO in the BIOS,

all the voltages are on auto.

Just installed some windows updates...

Everest ultimate says the voltage is:

1.296 - 1.312

It keeps changing every second

EDIT: its on 1.296 now

If I were you I'd loop memtest's test 5 for 8 hours. You said earlier that you passed 3 tests (loops), that's not nearly enough.

I did orthos once again and this time it had no problems for 8 hours!

So... I have to pass 2 more times? it takes a whole day to get 5 passes

Well 20 hours... 3 passes took me 12-13 hours

Some things I have noticed over the weeks:

After windows updates, the freezing seems to stop, or get delayed.

After installing something, the freezing occurs mostly in 24 hours.

With everest ultimate edition, the temperatures are lower. When the freezing occured every 8 hours it was higher. (overheating causes a lock up?)

Well, I will do the test till I wake up but I wont be able to do 5 passes... 4 hours for 1 pass :(

I have not run the test yet and I think I have found a solution!

Hard lock in Vista 64/A780GM-A - PC Perspective Forums

(check the last post)

I had all kinds of issues when I reviewed this board, with it not reading the ram spd timings correctly, and randomly assigning different timings on boot, with some brands of ram. It helps to manually set the timings to prevent that.
Well its not my board but I might have the same problem.

Should I update my BIOS first to check if that solves the problem?
And can you help me with manually setting all the timings? I am not very good at such things...

I will find more information! stay tuned

More info my motherboard:

This is a very interesting topic! please check it out

http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx...e&id=20080608040535531&page=2&SLanguage=en-us

In this topic they say it is that most memory sticks are not supported in some way.

And that the Q6600 does not work well together with MB. But I think that is fixed already.

I think it would be best to bring the computer back (I can for free) and ask them to put in a new motherboard. But which motherboard should I put in?

I've heard the P5b one is good, but I am not sure which version I need.

And this would probably solve it.

Hi Yaho, My advice at this stage would be to take your system in to the repair shop and be guided by what they say. And I recommend that when you get it back you think very carefully about trying to Overclock or fiddle. As you have learnt it can have some nasty conseqences.

By the way the FSB is 0.7 higher than the default FSB. I think its causing the computer to freeze up.

I wonder why the computer does that :/

I clearly remember it was not like that when I tried to overclock it. Probably drived the bios nuts xD

I did email the company where I got the computer from. They probably know what I should do I guess.
