Help! Vista Freezing!

Not sure what for drive it is

Checking in device manager, this is what I found:

ATA channel 0
ATA channel 0
ATA channel 1
ATA channel 1
NVIDIA nforce serial ATA controller
NVIDIA nforce serial ATA controller
NVIDIA nforce serial ATA controller
Standaard (In english, standard) Dual Channel PCI IDE controller
Standaard (In english, standard) Dual Channel PCI IDE controller

So I think it has been installed. There is a network nvidia driver too.

ImgBurn, I will try that, thanks.

Do not have a floppy drive, so I have to use a CD.

Click on serial ATA controller, select properties, then look at the driver. What is it? The network driver is fine, leave it alone.

Re: Recovery Partition

how do i create a recovery partition in windows vista x64 so i dont have to insert the recovery disk to boot into if vista crashes?
Assuming your 500GB drive is a single partition, right click on Computer and select manage. In the left pane select Disk Management. Right click on your hard drive and select 'shrink volume'. Create enough space so that you'll be able to copy your drive. I forget whether or not the newly created space is unallocated or not, but if it is, format it, if not, you're good to go.

Go to the Control Panel/System and Maintenance/Backup and Restore Center. Click on backup computer and point it to the partition you just created... let it do it's thing.

If your drive is cut up and not a single partition, the same steps apply, just pick a volume that you'll be able to shrink that has enough space to fit C:

Turn automatic updates off, uninstall that driver, let Microsoft install its own default driver.

Hi Fumz, re: Asus "Optimized Defaults", I don't believe there is one on the P5 series boards. Asus claim to provide an "optimized" board.
Oh wow... really? :huh:What do guys do when they need to load the fail safe defaults?

**edit** or are fail safe defaults F5? (thinking cap in the wash today)

When I uninstalled it (at the device manager under ATA controller) I had to restart, and after the restart I had to do another restart, and now I still have it.

I suppose its the auto update? How to turn that off?

EDIT: Maybe you mean automatic updates from windows... lemme turn it off and try that

EDIT2: I think I just deleted them... let me restart to see if it does not install it again

When you get back to the device manager, under the driver tab, click on driver details. Should say Microsoft.

It would have been so much easier if I had an english OS... *sigh*

Well, I only have this left:

ATA channel 0
ATA channel 0
ATA channel 1
ATA channel 1

And they all say microsoft in the details

Or do you mean something else?

It does not seem to load the disc in any way... I restart my computer, insert the disc so it will load, but it does not load anything, just vista...

I just let it in too and that didnt work either

WAIT!... perhaps shutdown computer and then turn on hehe.. wait

Didnt work either....

Wait. Let me set BIOS to boot from CD, that would work... if I do not come back I might do the 8 hour test.

Now there's an idea! :p

Make your cd drive the first boot device. When you start, you'll get the "boot from cd.." message; press enter. Then "press any key to boot from cd", again, tap away... and run that bad boy all night.

... if I do not come back then there is a god and fumz can now rest.

OMFG... I have not slept yet and you're awake? OK, the nest test is Orthos... You have a dual core cpu right? If you have a quad core, then run 2 instances of Orthos. Stress Prime 2004 dl here/

Another 8 hours. If this passes, we load the OS and bench from there.

*sigh* another freeze... have to restart once again

Another freeze... does that mean its my CPU?
