windows audio is the only one not started.....

windows audio: auto: on
windows audio: status: blank (not started)
I then highlighted windows audio and the side bar opened: "start the service" I clicked start : this is the message I got "windows could not start the windows audio service on local computer" then the next message "error 1068: the dependency service or group failed". I can't get it to start if I right click or thru the side bar....no luck.

In the last sentece it states dependency.
That means a service it needs to start is not starting.
Go to services again.
Go to the name of your sound card click propties
You will 4 tabs go to dependency and
it will tell you what it depends on.

Just for the sake of it make sure you do not have it muted.
Yes i have done that.
Also make sure your wires are in the right holes.
Done that too.
Another idea is to go to device manger and remove the driver
reboot and windows will see the sound card and install new drivers.
You can leave it or go the the manfacture website and get new ones.
Sending a few shots of what to look for in services.

Hope I was some help.

Jimmy

Jimmy has the same idea we had before, but he goes a step further, he has fresh eyes and is not getting disgusted, give it a try.
You should back up on a external hard drive, if you have one.

If you do bring it to a store make sure you watch them do the back-up.
Heard once that bestbuy backed up somebodies stuff and only made shortcuts
to folders and they lost everything.

Also maybe they can fix the problem wirhout a fresh install.

If the system is badly hosed from your mistake of having 2 vistas
better to go that way.

No external hard drive maybe I'll bring the computer to a computer store.

Just take a look and see how easy. You may want to ask questions before you decide
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/68767-clean-install-upgrade-vista.html?ltr=C
This is for an upgrade Vista (which we do as a clean install

looks ok to me....I have my Vista disk or the disk your recommending sounds good. I only use this computer for Internet or printing. I have Office & Works installed, but I have the disks. I can't think of any other questions. Sounds good to me....thanks!

as far as backing everything up on an external hard drive....if I choose to delete/loose everything......could this still be done without the hard drive?

Because of the problems that you had we are going to format the drive; its in the tutorial that I just gave you. Everything on the drive will be gone. So you can back up and everything is gone or everything is just gone. If you dont care if you lose stuff we do not need the external hard drive.

Just to make sure I understand.....everything in the hard drive...like pictures, videos, games and that sort of stuff will be gone, but all the capabilities of the computer as if it was new will be reinstalled?

I can put pictures/videos on a CD and stuff like games I could re-install later.....so I really don't need a hard drive....if so I'll take care of this stuff tonight and tomorrow or next time your available we could do the install.

I'm not that computer savvy.......so when I watch/read the tutorial some of the topics I have no idea what their talking about. I'm a real novice with computers although I have been using them since the Commodor 64.....never had any real problems before.

I appreciate the help....thanks!!
