HDD Sleep?

This may sound odd, but have you tried replacing the old hardware back in there and seeing if it makes a difference? I suspect there is a driver conflict, in that something that was installed previously was interacting with the system in a way that the current hardware cannot - or vice versa.

Is this a home built machine or an OEM machine (HP, Dell, etc)?

I suspect if it is the latter then the OEM has altered your settings. We may have to go digging through the group policy and / or the registry to fix it.s

It's an HP m8200n Media Center (or was) I just realized the TV Tuner Card had
to be removed (an HP proprietary) for the gfx card to fit... I'm embarrassed;
could that be the problem?

Hhmmmm, Perhaps, if your remote control receiver is still plugged in - try unplugging that.

As for why the things are missing in your control panel - obviously it isn't finding something that it used to find - perhaps simply uninstalling the drivers for your TV tuner may do the trick.

It was never plugged in at all, in fact I never got around to learning how to
access the TV tuner (to busy learning other things) in fact I do intend to
add a 'better' tuner later that is part of what I want the machine for.

Perhaps simply uninstalling the drivers for your TV tuner may do the trick.

Where / how would I find the drivers to un-install?

Download the M$oft dumppo.exe attached, extract it somewhere in the path and run "cmd/dumppo cap" and "dumppo admin" and post results.

First I want to apologize for my lack of knowledge concerning this!

This "CMD/powercfg /a" in an elevated Command window did nothing that I could tell.

I d'loaded and extracted the zip file to the desktop; what does "somewhere in the path" refer to?
I don't understand what this means...
I'm sure you meant to extract it somewhere other than the desktop; where?

Ted, when i wrote cmd/powercfg...... i meant (sorry) powercfg /a or powercfg -a in the cmd console, not even necessary to run the command prompt as admin.
Same thing for dumppo.
When i said to place dumppo in the path, i meant (sorry again) to place it in c:\windows or in system32 folder so it can be launched from anywhere, not necessary to run the command prompt as admin.
so once in the cmd console, type in:
powercfg /a or powercfg -a
dumppo cap
dumppo admin

Please note that for Microsoft Windows to run in ACPI mode, it needs to be installed with ACPI enabled in the BIOS. If you switch from ACPI to non-ACPI mode, or vice versa, Microsoft Windows will fail to boot. You need to reinstall Microsoft Windows everytime you switch modes.

No, I can't find any page like that. If you can tell me how to get a "screen shot"
of the BIOS like yours I'll show you what I have.

ROM Size 512kB (not a typo lower k in paper work)
