GTA 4 Minimum Requirements

Hmm, if this is true then I am curious if they will go the Far Cry 2 route and make it easily adjustable to switch between DX10/DX9. I found that the game offered not nearly enough difference between the two and the performance difference with DX9 was a HUGE increase so even on my DX10 card I still am running it as such. Do you know of website which offeres PC exclusive media? I went to gamespot to look through the screenshots and they only have a dozen or so ones you can clearly tell are from the PC version. I'd like to see some HD game footage if you know of any.

Built this desktop myself about a year ago so that I could enjoy Crysis. May not be able to max out crysis more than 1440x900 Very High/Enthusiast (which still looks better than any other game :-X) but this desktop has yet to have any other game give it a hard time. Everything else I run in 1680x1050 16xAF 4xAA with Vsync. I love my PC :D
Had a quick look to see if someone had put the screenshots from the PC gamer magazine on the net as there was quite a lot, but can't find any atm, but the subscriber edition (which I get) only came yesterday anyway, but I found this:

Game looks amazing with a Dual Core and a 8800 card. It did have some major framerate wobbles, “nothing fatal though” insists the reviewer.

So might not have much to worry about with not having a quad core, as I only have a Core 2 Duo myself anyway.

And I've not actually read the review in PC gamer magazine yet as I've not had time, so if there's more stuff about the graphics in it when I read it, I'll post here.

Thank you. I dont know if its the simple internet to actual conversation barrier but I sensed some very slight hostility it felt like about me being so skeptic to believe the games requirements and my own systems configuration and the performance its capable of. I am in no way shape or form a diehard fan of any brand of hardware as I simply go where the best FPS for your dollar is and I do realize my computer is not a super computer by any means and there is always room for improvement. I just dont want any hard feelings is all because I do like these boards and I dont want anyone to dislike me because of a misunderstanding in viewpoint/opinion or simple lack of tone due to it being the internet.

:) Either way I am quite excited to be playing GTA 4 soon on the platform which the game originated from and the one which hopefully judging by if Rockstar did do all the work to the engine which it seems to have will do the game its true justice.

Sorry if anything I said came across as being hostile. Like you said, it's hard to type things how you want them to sound on the Internet.

I'm looking forward to playing it on PC too and looking forward to see how great it looks on PC. Always preferred the GTA games on PC as well. Could never really get in to them on console.

To get ready for the games release coming in a matter of practically days now I thought I'd fire up the Xbox360 version which I have neglected quite a bit since it basically first came because I wanted to have a reason to play it on PC.

That being said there are certain things about the gameplay I am really hoping they have sort of fixed for the PC. Doing one of the last missions that as not to spoil anything for those that havent played it yet, I was trying to throw grenades in tight spaces and it happened twice that I instead of over hand throwing the grenade lobbed it basically at my own feet. Of course this caused me to fail the mission which is rather frustrating when its a multi-part mission and I was half way through it for the second time. I am hoping that with mouse and keyboard the ease of grenade use will be much better and I can make sure I am blowing my target into the air rather than myself.

Also I was noticing the shadows were really not that great quality I'm hoping this is just due to the limitations of Xbox360. As an example they would sort of blink if in the distance and fade out rather often to where the shadow just looked like a black smudge. I am still in awe that this game received as many perfect scores as it did. Do not get me wrong I do love the game and the things which they introduced with this series.

I'm just hoping reviewers are a tad bit more critical of the game on the PC platform and just dont throw out 10s left and right because Rockstar asked/paid them to. Anyway all this being said I am still looking forward to the game because while at its release the consoles graphical achievment in the game was honestly very nice and above what I expected by quite a bit, but now this many months after it came out it looks like its lost that finesse and polish to more recent games that have come out. Heres hoping that the PC version is optimized enough to offer most people greater visuals than the consoles because I feel it will greatly improve the games immersion factor. I dont mean the pedestrian/traffic amounts either simply better textures, further draw distances for less pop-in and smoother lighting.

I feel this game should be just as immersive as Oblivion if not more so because of the fact that its coming almost 3 years after. But playing it on the 360 it really loses some of that immersion when the game has noticable, how can I put this, grachic "hold backs". Oh and by the way I feel all games that involve a fully explorable open ended world should offer some kind of fast travel like GTA 4s which is even better than Oblivions in my opinion because its more believable since you at least still have to find a taxi where as oblivion you just insta-travel with no explanation. This is a minor downside to the recently released Far Cry 2 in my opinion since the driving from point A to point B gets rather tedious. If a developer chooses no fast travel form to simply force exploration and increase play time then thats just lazy. Those things should always be optional.

seeing as it comes with a free copy of securerom, that will not be removed even if uninstalled - some comment about if the game is uninstalled and then re-installed it will not need security checks..

not going to buy the game knowing that it comes with securerom installed when removing it is damn hard :(

there were rumors that Rockstar put some other security implementation on Steam versions, such as you are only possible to install this kind of version a few times on one machine... if this is true than the securom version in my opinion is better, 'cause you are not limited with the number of installs on one machine, even though the securom is hard to remove from the system.

Rockstar didn't put the limited install Securom on GTA4 and Steam has nothing like that. If a developer puts a game on Steam, that's more protection than using Securom as Steam keep the files until release day, and once you buy the game through Steam, it's linked to that account and that account only, as well as letting you install it as many times as you want.

Well got the game running, and I must say the performance is terrible atm. SLI isn't supported, the game is so CPU intensive. Impossible to run textures on "High" setting on a graphic card with less than 1GB VRAM. You can get around this with setting some launch parameters, but it puts the VRAM up to 1.5GB usage, which can work on Vista as with WDDM it uses system RAM when VRAM runs out, but it performance is only ~20fps.

Rockstar have said they're working on a patch as quick as they can, so hopefully it will fix a lot of performance issues, as well as add SLI support.

The game is so buggy, it's not even funny. I am almost tempted to return it (lol). I also have a problem with my video card not working correctly (Nvidia 7900 GS OC 512MB) and I have the latest drivers (178.24) running Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

I'm glad I'm not the only one having problems. Took over an hour to install and set up various accounts needed to play and when I eventually got to play it, it was unbelievably laggy. I was on for 10mins with lowest settings and couldn't handle it so gave up and went to bed

I was comtemplating whether to buy this tomorrow or not, I have a GeForce 8800GTX 768MB card and 4 gig Ram, well its all listed in my system specs but my main concern whenever I buy a new game is the error that nvd.....blah blah blah has stopped working and then I must restart, had that with Crysis and others, so I am now not sure on GTA 4 I have the other GTA games and they are fine, but being a new game and having new hardware kind of makes me very weary :(

I was hoping to have seen many people saying what a great game etc........but sady its not the case just now :(

Oh well, may have to rethink this one

So your not waiting for a patch to put it right?

I had high hopes for this game as Rockstar have always been good, while I am on the subject, are the graphics pretty much the same as the others? or is it vastly superior to them?

I probably will leave it for now, and monitor how it goes for patches and their effects be it good or bad, hopefully for the good :D

I also had very high hopes for the game and I've been waiting for months! I don't know why they would release such a buggy game.

I may get the game again if they ever do fix it. Even with a maxed out PC, I've heard some people say they still get crappy performance.

:(

Not worth 20GB's of my hard drive. :p

Sure I can understand how you feel, I've been the same with other games, and as the sizes are getting very large now, a case in point, I have Microsofts Flight Sim X and that was terrible to start with, but now its vastly better a they released a kind of service pack update for it and its very good now, and that game takes 30 gig if you include the expansion

I hope they get it sorted indeed, and as they know about it you can be sure they will sort it ;)
