Brink, just wanted to drop a line and say thanks for mentioning Supersonic Download Accelerator. I have used it for all of 5 minutes and it is fast, sleek, and without any major frills. It's what I have been looking for for a long time.

Found a new backup Program that I like and works well on Vista x64

Cobian Backup 9 - Cobian's site - The home of Cobian Backup

Supports Volume Shadow Copy (ie, can backup open files), compression and encryption. All free too.

If it's not declasse, I have a couple of freewares of my own that work in Vista:

A favorites launcher that requires .NET 2.0

Faves Free Version


A stand-alone CRC32/MD5 checksum utility that's optimized for large files

FileCRC32 - Faves CRC32 and MD5 Sum Util

Also lately I have been using DVD Rebuilder and it works very well in
Vista. I run with UAC disabled and so far I haven't had any issues
with it on Vista or XP. The free version produces very good output
from what I've seen. Using QuEnc set to average quality it
backs up faster than real-time on my dual-core machine. My
understanding is the pro version allows launching multiple instances
of encoders on dual-core machines and is enhanced with new features
but I believe the free version is still updated for bug fixes.

Actually, in terms of CRC checking and MD5 checking - I would go with HashTab... is the coolest thing ever! - the old 1.14 was separated out into X86 and X64versions, but the new 2.0 version supports all Windows OSs.
