Ok, you had asked if i had net. framwork installed. When i looked in my programs i saw no net. framwork listed. Should it have been listed in programs?

Just to be sure i had net. framework i downloaded (net. framework 3.5) not 3.5 sp1. Just 3.5. It is now listed in my programs. Next i want to remove all ati drivers and software. When i go to add/remove it will not let me remove. I get set up exe stopped working. I used the driver sweep tool Darkassain supplied to remove drivers. Is this enough or does the ati need to be removed as well?

Ok, according to your system specs you have a PCI-e card. Cool. Sorry that I missed that the first time around.

As for .net, go to control panel, then Programs and Files" and check to see if you have these installed. If you do, you'll have .net installed, if not, do a windows update and make sure all .net files are checked and ready to be downloaded and installed. Install them.

Hi, I had no net. framework in my programs list . I downloaded net. framework 3.5.
Windows update shows no updates available. Went to microsoft and saw (net. framework 1.1 sp1). Is this the one i need? I see in your attachment i need to download install manager? Thanks Ps watching football so may be a little while before i get back.

Once you have all the .net files installed. If you have those installed, stay in "Programs and Files" and look for this file -



Catalyst Install - click it and follow the instructions. Once that's done, don’t reboot yet, instead go to "Device Manager" and right click your video card then click "uninstall" if a check box comes up asking you to uninstall the drivers, check it, and then click OK. Reboot. If windows asks for drivers for video card, ignore and install the drivers for the card.

Let me know what happens.

Hi, I looked for the manager and was nowhere to be found??? So i reinstalled the software with the original ati disk and was able to get the manager back thru programs. At that point i removed everything ati. Did a search for leftovers and there were none. Did a disk cleanup and a defrag and double checked for updates. Downloaded the suite from ati and installed it. Everything went well, no errors! Just a couple more questions.
This tower came from dell with no net. framework ? And still none after the sp1 update? Also can not figure out why the manager was missing from the program files.
Anyway i am a happy camper. Thanks much for you help.

Glad you finally got it working.

In the future, I suggest you run windows update, if it isn't done automatically, to insure you have the latest files on your operating system. Furthermore I would turn off the driver update portion of Windows Update by

1- Going to Windows Update
2- Click on “Change settings”
3- Under “Recommended updates”
4- Make sure the “Include recommended updates when downloading, installing, or notifying me about updates” check box is un-checked.

This will prevent driver updates and optional components from “automatically” installing during windows updates. You’ll want to at least have a choice to install these or not, especially drivers, which I always recommend you get from the manufacture’s website.

I have had windows updates turn on but set to let me choose. Why i did not get the net. framework from updates is by me. Thanks again
