not sure if any of you have seen this. but comodo free firewall is now out for vista 32 bit and 64 bit OS.

I've been using it for a while and like it. Used to ZoneAlarm, but no 64bit support on it yet.

Hi Folks

Yah, I've been a Beta tester for Comodo Firewall pro for about 8 months now, and it's matured immensely and is still one of the highest ranked, independentaly tested firewall....free or paid.
Matousec Firewall test results
Matousec is regarded as having the most comprehensive and toughest firewall testing procedures around, and they're taken very seriously. A bad score here and a Paid-Mode firewall can see a huge hit in it's bottom line very shortly afterwards.

CFP (Comodo Firewall Pro) is 100% FREE, not a watered down version of a Paid-mode firewall. It's free now and always will be, as Melih (Comodo CEO) proudly states whenever he can....
We definitely had some problems thru Beta, but this Public release is very stable and highly secure in default settings.

If you folks want help with some more expert settings and tighter Network Security settings, check out the Comodo Forums in the Comodo Firewall board and you can find some of the custom rules we've created that can be used by most users to help tighten things up.

Yah....MUCH better considering that Windows Firewall was the only firewall to not even score a SINGLE POINT (out of 9625 available). I strongly suggest to anyone here to stop using Windows firewall right away and use one from the testing site above. Windows firewall is only good for after a reinstall to help keep some security until you can install a proper firewall, preferrably with full HIPS such as Comodo has. (HIPS = Host Intrusion Prevention System)

hi guys.sorry if this is an old thread but i recently installed comodo firewall pro and i wanted to ask you if i manually disable windows firewall. i remember in XP that as soon a new firewall was installed, the in built microsoft firewall was automatically disabled to avoid conflicts, but this is not the case in vista. by default both of them are running and no warning messages appear.

also i have avast pro mainly for viruses, trojans etc and it says that it has a web-network-standard-p2p shield. are all of these some kind of firewalls? if so do i disable them too?!

I suggest you disable it to avoid any potential conflicts.

Welcome to Vista Forums.

I would recommend that you turn off and disable Windows Firewall to. You should never have more than one firewall running at a time to avoid confilcts between them.

Avast is a just a antivirus program. It and all of it's features have nothing to do with the firewall, so it is ok to run what you like. However, like a firewall program you should only have one antivirus program installed and running to avoid conflicts.

Yep....never run 2 software firewalls, they will Always Conflict!
Comodo is the top ranked firewall for Windows so you have the best going for you.

When asked to support Comodo wit the 'toolbar / search / whatever, be sure to uncheck it - do not install it.

Hi Abiosis,

Yeah, it can be at first. One way to help this is to place the Defense + in Training Mode then run everything real quick. Afterwards, set it back to normal. Be sure that your computer is safe and malware clean first though.

Yah Shawn, that's good advice to help speed up the process. I actually run with Defence + disabled since I have other process monitors to do that job, and with my Security background my habits are ultra-safe...I just don't get infected by any Malware...ever.

Abiosis - Comodo's firewall is the #1 windows firewall in the most comprehensive firewall testing suite I've ever seen, run by Matousec Firewall Challenge. There is a period of learning for any firewall during the first while it's run on a new system, and CFP is no different. It's only because it monitors so many system processes and hooks with it's HIPS, that you'll see more popups than with other firewalls, but that doesn't make it less of a firewall because of this.

What it "CAN" lead to tho, is a user becoming so tired of these popups it leads to them turning off some features they shouldn't. Popup Alert burnout is a real factor with such a complete monitoring system as CFP has, but if the user can just make it thru the learning curve for the firewall, this becomes much, Much easier after awhile and the system is much safer.

Haha~~~I know Comobo's pretty good since it's a native x64 firewall...
obviously there're lacking of native x64 firewall out there...so I'm really cool with it...
before upgrade to x64,I'm using Zone Alarm SS with x86 Vista...
while they don't support x64 platform (I don't get it why they don't catch up with reality that x64's the way to go) I've to switch without choices...
