Cannot use right click on web sites to use functions

Stumped again. I did get through the scan and tried to follow the instructions on the ms page by entering the file path as directed. I did go wrong somewhere. see attachment. Would you have a simple but step by step direction as how to proceed? I have the end of scan and subsequent filepath copied from the MS page

In that screen shot, in the second CMD window picture, you left out a part of the path for the statement to work....

there are *two* CBS - one is the path and one is the filename.

You wrote

For what it is worth, you can copy the command from the page you are reading and then, in your cmd window, right click anywhere and select paste and it should paste the command, thereby keeping you from having to type it manually.

I am sorry to be such a pain, but after I did paste it in the cmd line,
it said "sorry, no items match your search"

Sorry, but on this page How to analyze the log file entries that the Microsoft Windows Resource Checker (SFC.exe) program generates in Windows Vista the commands also have spaces in them and such - if you copied and pasted it would look like this:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log  >sfcdetails.txt

Copy and paste it *from here* - you missed not only a \CBS but a critical space as well.

To be sure i got it right, I should copy and paste it in the cmd line after I click on run as administrator or in the black window? I did it both ways. In the black window I clicked the enter key it went back to C:\Windows\system32> and in the cmd line I got the message not found

I tried to copy and paste in the cmd line. see attachment, then when I right click or click, it disappears. When clicking on run as administrator, it goes to the black window and nothing more happens. If I click "enter' to continue, it goes to the start line C:\Windows\system32>

In that case you'll want to carefully type that line into the administrative cmd window - open it like before, type cmd, right click, select run as administrator, then type in the line - ***note the spaces in the line - it has to be exactly the same***

Did so again see attachment, but after clicking on enter it went to the next line. Or do the % key entries need be a space as -

And that is not going to do anything but create a file named sfcdetails.txt, which you can then post here.

When you open CMD in administrative mode, it defaults to opening in C:]windows]system32 - the file should be located right there, so open CMD in administrative mode again, and then copy the file to your desktop. Then you can close the CMD window, and post it here from the desktop.

GO back to my post showing you what to type with the [SPACE] parts - those are spaces that you need to have for that command to work. *then, you can use Windows Explorer to copy the file from C:\Windows\System32 to your desktop, or just post it directly here.

OK, let's try again - go to this post http://www.vistax64.com/network-int...ick-web-sites-use-functions-2.html#post721859 and do the steps again *in order* exactly as they are posted. when you get done, perform step 1 - 1. How to Read the CBS.LOG - by typing the following in to the *same* window you opened to run the SFC scan:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log  >sfcdetails.txt

Note - there is a space after findstr, a space after "[SR]" (after the second quotation mark) and a space after log. After doing this step, come back here and post the file C:\windows\system32\sfcdetails.txt *as is* - don't change it, don't edit it, don't put it into Word.

Hi Johannes,

We are getting there, slowly but surely. After typing the command, you need to press the 'Enter' key to actually execute it. To find the newly created file, click on the start orb and type 'sfcdetails.txt' into the search box. This should appear in the results pane under 'Files'. Right click on it and select 'Properties'. Next, click on 'Open File Location' and the file's location will open with the file highlighted. Right click on the file and select 'Copy'. Next, right click on a blank space on your desktop and select 'Paste'. Now, when you reply, enclose that file as an attachment.

There seems to be the "rub" after I clicked on the enter key. all it did was going to the next line like in notepad or word. see result in attachment.

Johannes, then the sfcdetails.txt file should be in c:\windows\system32
Copy it and attach it here.
