I don't know what methodology is being used for distributing it this way, but SP1 was available for me this morning on Windows Update. I have made no modifications to anything, so this is definitely the real deal. My brother has 32-bit, and did not have the option of SP1. Could be only in the offing for x64 systems at this point. I don't know. In any case, I expect your wait is very short if you have any wait left. Please consider that before downloading from questionable sources.
On Monday (February 4th), we announced the release to manufacturing (RTM) of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). Overall, people are excited to hear that we have reached this milestone, but some are disappointed they are not able to immediately download it. In my blog post on the subject, I noted that we were going to make SP1 available to customers in stages to make sure we delivered a great experience. As I explained, one reason for this is that we are working through an issue with a small set of hardware devices that may not function properly after the Windows Vista-based PC they are installed on is updated to SP1. This is an issue with the way the device drivers were re-installed during the SP1 update process, not with the drivers...
Today we are excited to announce that we have released Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista to manufacturing (RTM) for our first set of languages (English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese). Service Pack 1 is a very important milestone because it addresses many of the key issues that our customers have identified with Windows Vista over the last year both, directly and through programs like the Customer Experience Improvement Program. With Service Pack 1, we have made great progress in performance, reliability and compatibility. One of the great things about my job is that I get to play with the latest builds of our products -- I've personally been running Windows Vista SP1 pretty exclusively for a few months and I've noticed that my...
Windows Vista from Microsoft takes a lot of resources, we all know that. So here is the tool for easy removal of unwanted components and bootable ISO creation in order to make Vista run faster and to your liking. This tool doesn't use any kind of hacking, all files and registry entries are in their original form and protected as they would be if you install the full version only without the components you select for the removal. It configures the installation directly, before the installation, meaning you'll have to remake the ISO and reinstall it. This method is much cleaner, not to mention easier and more logical than doing it after installation on every reinstall. Download:- vLite v1.1 Final View:- Changelog | Unattended Vista...

Apple has started quietly shipping 64-bit Windows Vista drivers (for Boot Camp) with the install disks of the latest Mac Pros which were just released earlier this month. The installation instructions that come with the new Mac Pros specify this new feature: Important: You must use a single full-install Windows installation disc (Service Pack 2 is required for Windows XP installations). Do not use an upgrade version of Windows and do not install an earlier version of Windows XP and attempt to update it later to SP2 or later. Use only 32-bit versions of Windows. If you have a Mac Pro introduced in late 2007 or later, you can use a 64-bit version of Windows Vista. The finding has been confirmed by multiple users. No indication if these...
Microsoft has lifted its ban on enabling Windows Vista Home Basic and Home Premium in virtual machine environments. The company announced on January 20 its decision to add the two new SKUs and planned to update its end-user license agreement to reflect the change. (Microsoft was planning on making the announcement at 12:01 a.m. on January 21, but another publication broke the embargo, so the company is going out with the news early.) Microsoft almost announced in June, 2007, that it was relaxing some of its virtualization rules for Windows Vista, in order to allow users of a wider number of Vista SKUs to make use of virtualization technology on the desktop. Then, in the eleventh hour, something happened — exactly what still remains...
Several industry sources have confirmed to TG Daily that a very early version of Windows 7, previously code-named Blackcomb Vienna, already has been shipped to “key partners” as a “Milestone 1” (M1) code drop for validation purposes. A roadmap received by TG Daily indicates that the new operating system will be introduced in the second half of 2009. While it has generally been believed that Windows 7 was scheduled for a 2010 debut, Microsoft has revised the roadmap and apparently moved up the release date by a few months: A recently distributed roadmap of the OS lists a release to manufacturing in H2 2009. Microsoft declined to comment on this date. The current M1 drop is available to Microsoft partners in English only and has...
