On 29/10/2009 12:23:34 PM, there was no "problem" when I ran CHKDSK.

On 29/10/2009 7:33:46 PM, there was an installation of Windows Update.

On 29/10/2009 7:55:09 PM, I ran CHKDSK and discovered a "problem".

How do I fix this "problem" ?

The "problem" as seen on Wininit log report from CHKDSK:

Unable to locate the file name attribute of index entry Compressed (zipped) Folder.ZFSendToTarget of index $I30 with parent 0x228e in file 0x4e4d.


Deleting index entry Compressed (zipped) Folder.ZFSendToTarget in index $I30 of file 8846.

Unable to locate the file name attribute of index entry big5.nlp of index $I30 with parent 0x3d22 in file 0x4f20.

Deleting index entry big5.nlp in index $I30 of file 15650.

Unable to locate the file name attribute of index entry bopomofo.nlp of index $I30 with parent 0x3d22 in file 0x4f24.

Deleting index entry bopomofo.nlp in index $I30 of file 15650.

Unable to locate the file name attribute of index entry ksc.nlp of index $I30 with parent 0x3d22 in file 0x4f28.

Deleting index entry ksc.nlp in index $I30 of file 15650.

Unable to locate the file name attribute of index entry normidna.nlp of index $I30 with parent 0x3d22 in file 0x4f30.
.
.
etc. This continues on for a while. I have a .doc document of the full report, if anyone wants to see it.

Hi Edward200,

You might want to be prepared for re-installation of Vista (or from Backup). I think the $MFT and other $ file(s) are corrupted and that you might be on verge of losing valuable data. I had similar event (soon after Vista update 4 wwks ago). I also notices similar behaviour after running Defraggler. This suggests to me that the $MFT is not refreshed faster enough or someother quirk, and that it causes file allocation problem. FSUTIL USN DELETEJOURNAL /D C: might help, but I cannot be sure it will.

Do you run live Linux, or attach USB drive from cold boot?

Thank you for your response. I appreciate your web links to CHKDSK and to HDD diagnostics.
At the present time, I am not experiencing any HDD problems and my computer runs smoothly.
The "ZFSendToFolder" issue arose after I did a CHKDSK following an update from Windows.
I suspect the "ZFSendToFolder" is a bit of debris left over from the Windows update process.
What annoys me is that I have not yet found a way to get rid of the "ZFSendToFolder" issue. But in time I shall be able to do that, either on my own or with the help of someone from this forum.

Re-installing VISTA is not an option that I am considering, at the present time. My computer is running fine - so far. I backup often to HDD and to DVD disks. Hence, data loss is not an issue, yet.
I do not run live Linux. Vista Ultimate (64-bit) is my operating system.
Also, I do not attach a USB drive from cold boot. I do not use any USB drives.
As I mentioned to Flavius, this "ZFSentToFolder" is likely some debris left over from a Windows update.
In a few months time, RegistryFix will be coming out with a 64-bit version of their software. That may help me out. (I use RegistryFix on my old Dell computer running on 32-bit Windows XP).
".ZFSendToTarget" is a file extension associated with Microsoft Corporation.
