Windows vista OEM key

Hi, I don't know where to post this.

My situation is as follows:

I have Windows Vista Ultimate x64 installed on my system, running it as a trial.
Well, I like it better then my Windows XP so I decided I want to keep it.

The trial is expired.

If I buy a Windows Vista Ultimate x 64 OEM from the internet, will I be able to activate my Windows version with its key?

Or do I have to install Windwos Vista Ultimate x64 OEM?

Please let me know, because it is urgent, i need to make a decision.

Regards Jasir

If you are going to spend money then I would seriously consider getting Windows 7 rather than Vista.

I thought I do not get their support with an OEM version of the OS.

If you are going to spend money then I would seriously consider getting Windows 7 rather than Vista.
I might buy windows 7 in a couple of years, because I think it will need 1-2 years to be actually running porperly like every other windows product.

Do you think I am right about this or is Windows 7 just like a finished version of Windows Vista.

As well I am worried about the compatibility of applications with the new OS.

I tend to feel myself being on the safer site with an established OS rather then a fresh one.

Hi Jasir,

FYI

Windows 7 sales outshine Vista | Microsoft - CNET News

Maybe it's all hype/marketing stunt but you'll find a lot of Vista users are migrating to 7. Some even say Win 7 is what Vista was supposed to be in the first place.
You'll be the best judge :D

Win7 is the better Vista - as to my experience up to now. In 32bit, I would not worry about older programs. But for really old hardware, there may not be adequate drivers (because those have to come from the hardware manufacturers). Other than that, it is very stable and faster than Vista.

Ok, I will read through a few reviews of win 7 before i make a decision.

I will have to see if the network compatibility with win XP is there, because our home network has still one win xp pc and one win xp laptop.

I upgraded my pc to win vista because of a hardware upgrade.
