Windows Vista fails to boot because of TVALZ_O.SYS

Hi,

I have successfully installed Windows Vista onto a Toshiba Satellite C855D. While this laptop came out in late 2012, there seems to be near-full driver support for Vista so far. The only thing that demonstrably does not work is USB 3.0, but that is to be expected.

Anyway, I install drivers for my machines with Snappy Driver Installer - in my experience, these drivers are reliable and usually more recent than what Windows Update has to offer. However, there seems to be a problem with a Toshiba x64 ACPI-Compliant Value Added Logical and General Purpose Device (or something along those lines). Whenever I try to install this device, which comes from the Vendor pack, Windows Vista fails to boot with the following error:

Code:
File: TVALZ_O.SYS
Status: 0xc0000098
Info: Windows failed to load because a required file is missing, or
      corrupt.

Booting in Safe Mode and disabling driver signature enforcement do not help. What can I do to solve this issue?

I'm short on time. I don't know if updating Broadcom as suggested here-

would help.

Hi,

No bother - there's no rush at all. Neither of the links specified in the thread are available any more.

using winpe or another operating system,

load the sick system hive in regedit.

search for TVALZ_O.SYS

set the start type to 4

The only thing that demonstrably does not work is USB 3.0
Attached
Install the msu file first then the drivers

One doesn't need the links to update Broadcom unless the updates don't exist any more.

I'm fairly sure the updates no longer exist - the links that you sent are no longer online, and I doubt Dynabook would still offer it on their website.

Anyway, there was a driver offered by Legacy Update that seems to have solved the issue. Snappy Driver Installer still complains that the device is out of date, but the only driver available is for Windows 8.1, which will obviously not work.

SIW2, I cannot install the .msu file - all I get is a message that states The update does not apply to your system.

It is the driverframework update. You would get that message if it is already installed.

are you using 32 or 64 bit vista ?

If I remember correctly, when you run a .msu, you should have "never check for updates" selected in Control Panel, Windows Updates.
