Windows Defender

If you are using Microsoft security essentials, defender will not work. Its function has been taken over by MSE.

Not using MSE. My PC has Windows Security Center installed. Got up this AM and clicked on the Defender icon and it says "Windows Defender is turned off". I just ran a Malwarebytes scan and it came up clean. I just recently installed AVG and I'm wondering if it's interfering in some way. My ISP is Comcast. They were providing McAfee but switched to Norton and I have had very bad experience with Norton and did not want to go there. 2 friends who are computer techs both recommended AVG.

If you have installed a antivirus/malware protection program Windows defender will turn it self off automatically it is natural lol don't worry

Shadow... that is not true. All antivirus/malware programs will NOT automatically turn off Defender. MSE will, but not all will.

Yes it does but if you want to revert to Defender you will have trouble. I uninstalled MSSE and couldn't get defender to restart at first now it runs and the firewall runs but the security center won't start. Switching back to Nod32
