which card to go for

after what ive read and seen i might now be going for the ati hd5870 as for some reason i can see the nvidia version being aroun the £400 marker

and in all the reviews ive seen the hd5870 has beeten the gtx285

yeah tbh the best time to but an nvidia card is after they have brought a new model out to the one you actually want , then the price drops dramatically ;)

It's a similar-ish status quo to pretty much this time last year.

The fastest single GPU was the 4870 and the 4870x2 ruled the roost for a few months until nvidia released their 'revisions' and regained the top spot.

It currently doesn't look good for nvidia, but I certainly wouldn't rule them out.

Then again ATI may very well be the winner this round.

ha ha , well we'll have to wait and see , either way the wife is buying the flagship model for as a combined christmas 40th bday pressie when it comes out , i decided a very very long time ago i would never buy anothe ATI card ;)

Im not saying its a bad card , but they used to be dogs , at least the driver support was , i got sick of buying cards that ran games badly and crashed my system because ATI didnt support them properly , it may all be differant now but i have a very long memory
