I'm quaking in my boots here as you are all such techies - even those of you with problems lol!
However, as I have nowhere else to go with my situation I'm hoping for some advice here - in layman's terms and words of one syllable please!
I have a PC on XP and a laptop on Vista. Until recently they both worked OK basically having networked them. Only problem - which probably is irrelevant - is the email was incompatible, the pc using Thunderbird and of course the laptop on Windows Mail. So annoying that I couldn't see the Windows Mail messages on the PC as that is the comp. used most.
However, I digress. I recently changed my ISP - new router etc. Got everything configured and up and running - even networked my wireless printer - and the laptop has connected - and i can get into IE no problem. However, I can't send or receive emails from the laptop. I don't understand why as everything was OK before the change.
My question is - where do I go to start configuring and setting this up please? Incoming is mail.talktalk.net and port 110. The rest of the info I've scribbled down is: "25 smtp.talktalk.net ssl - leave unchecked" but doesn't mean much to me. This was during a hasty conversation with my new ISP and of course trying to figure out what all this means 3 days down the line is well nigh impossible,. I have spent a couple of hours going into various little options on the laptop but anything I've tried is useless.
Any (simple) advice would be much appreciated - I am a female trying to be independent and would like to say to my family "oh it was no problem" !! I live in Scotland but that's really got nowt to do with it
By the way, the error msg I get up when I try to send an email is :The host 'pop3' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly.
Account: 'pop3', Server: 'pop3', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D.#
Hope all this helps.....ta in advance..? And I really do need advice in plain language please!
