System Restore is supposedly much improved and more reliable in Windows 7.

I am sure he wasn't. Just pointing out that it is reversible, which make arguments about it's so-called lack of effectiveness moot.

I've had system restore for another problem jack up my Avast program once and reversing it had no effect in fixing it.

Ah! They do say after all that "You die only once". If Murphy pays you a visit then your only hope is: SR or Backup or Both or throw the damn thing out the window (in the case you live in a basement go to the first floor).

I have been saved in the past by SR and when that has failed to solve the problem I just switched HDs (I always make an image of my HD ). I use Acronis true image; excellent software and a lifesaver.:D
