What Is Your Preferred PC Manufacturer?

I always always always build my own. What I did with my first desktop, was buy a $200 pc from a friend, then proceeded to strip it and fix it up (by which I mean install some real components, not prebuilt).
The PC I use now is completely custom. Most reliable PC I have ever used.

My Laptop was from a custom manufacturer, so it was prebuilt, but I chose all the specs and such. It was a little too tough for me to get into building one of these, mostly just trying to locate parts. I went with a good but not well known manufacturer, and got it with a blank drive too. Saved me like $300.

I've had all laptops over the last few years, 1x Compaq, 1x Toshiba & 3x HP. All computers ran well so no complaints there.
I agree with VaguelyRapt getting rid of the bloatware is a pain.
When doing the exercise of having something custom built the estimated price submitted was double the brand named versions. [I haven't the spare time to do it myself.]

That makes all the difference. That is also what makes it worth it.

Besides, I LOVE building computers.

I could ship you & the custom built laptop out here.[in your vacation of course]:p
Haha. :roflmao:

I have always wanted to see Australia.

Though I think it would be better to build it here and ship it there. I could fax it...

Are the individual components covered by warranty?
What's the starting point with a custom built laptop?

A custom built laptop, now that sounds like an exersize. Starting point, look at the hard bits. How are you going to ge the screen to work and also power requirements. Where will you get the case from. The mobo is probably the easy bit as will be the keyboard. How much will it cost to build as regards to buying one. I have a sneakt suspicion this is one of those, it is cheaper to buy new, wipe the HD and install the OS of your choice.

I can't find it now, but a lot of lap tops people make are based from a Asus barebones laptop

True so true roy69.
I have been in touch with a company here that will supply the basics - case, display, & power requirements etc. You can then choose the rest of what's needed from a fairly wide range of options. Each time I have "built" a new laptop the price quoted has come back anywhere between A$4000.00 TO A$6000.00 which of course is highway robbery.
