What are you listening to?

Hello Locoeng, Wow what a collection of music, you have me beat by a longshot I have just over 400 CD's and climbing. I have added Ballet to my mix because my little daughter who is 11 has been dancing for 7 years. I am 55 so a lot of music from the 50's through 2010, may I ask what would be your favorite band. Thanks

Though I did as a young child (too young to know better), since 12 or so I serve nobody (except maybe my wife from time-to-time, and of course our cats), but nothing like was implied above nor will I ever do so again (though I suppose one could say I serve OPs here - but that's totally different).

Anyway, back to the point of this thread.

Re: ZZ Top

Hello Lorien I am kicking back with some ZZ Top right now with my Sony which is a 2 hundred watt system setting in it's stand next to my computer. Wife and kids kept telling me it is to loud so I bought a wireless headset so I can bump up the sound, they say I am hard of hearing but I let then think so, I can hear a pin drop but I LOVE super loud music.

Hey, americancritic. We also have a powerful audio system (Mitsubishi tuner, pre-amp, power amp - 180wpc, Dahlquist spkrs, JVC DVD and record player,...) which is very old (over 20 years) but still doing just fine. My wife also likes loud music as much as I do, so that's not an issue - we don't even own headphones. But the truth is that I rarely use it (she does except when watching the tube and sometimes we do so together just to hang out with each other and talk - or whatever). Instead I listen to the relatively crappy sound from my laptop but don't do so very often (I find it a little bit too distracting to give the forum my best effort) - usually just once every day or three for a break in the action (and typically post what it is). America was the last thing I listened to about 11 hours ago. Probably won't do so again until tomorrow or the day after (unless we decide to listen to the audio system together later on - but I don't count that when posting here).

Hello Lorien first I would like a second to thank you for your imput about my system with all the problems I have had. I also do not listen to any music when I am on the forum because I get to wrapped up in the music my sony also has sub woofers etc alond with 2 tapes for recording and a 5 disk changer for disks with surround sound, I can't burn from it and it does not have a turn table but I like it when my 200 watts come alive, I think it could break my windows if I turn it all the way up, I also have over 5000 songs I am going to rip to my computer I used to have them all in here and then the computer crashed, now I have all my Michael Jackson etc downloaded and I can bust my ear drums if I turn my sound up all the way on my computer. It is a really nice sound that comes from my computer I thought it would be kind of crappy if you know what I mean. Does your husband ever get on to the forum or is it just you. You sound like you know a lot have you been playing with the computer long, as you can see I have just started not to long ago but I am learning fast. Oh Michael had a lot of problems but he was the best at music and dance, I even have some that I had never listened to and I have to say wow when I did. Oh and back to music my system even has disco lights in it when I play anything it jumps to the music, when I am somewhere else in the house I just put on my wireless headset and go it's nice when your working on house projects.

Hi americancritic,

First, for everyone out there who wants to hear a little more music from my days:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=

As far as computers go, I've had my own business (my "second career") for about 20 years (I still own it and have some people and clients, but don't do much myself anymore other than strategic decisions and a bit of remote assistance (though that's rare as it's an on-site repair, troubleshooting, setup, and networking business more than remote work)), worked with computers for another 10 or so before that (but using them and doing business analysis for program design, not fixing them except my own), and have been doing the forum help thing for a little less than two - so yes, I do have quite a bit of experience. There are many others here who also have a great deal of experience, some even more, and quite a few with greater knowledge and/or specialization (but I continue to learn every day) - though most have moved to SF. But we all started out fresh at some point, so we all know what it's like to be at or close to the beginning. I found it to be an exciting and challenging time - and so will you. Heck, I still do. Check out the tutorial section in this Forum and you will learn a great deal at no expense and can go at your own pace and select the topics you want to understand the most in the order you wish. Also, just reading the forum threads can be quite educational - but it's not quite as focused as the tutorials. You can also just use Bing or Google to search for any topic you desire (but take what you read with a grain of salt - some is good, some is OK but not great, and some is downright wrong, so check out a few different choices and not just one or two).

I don't have anywhere near 5000 albums (even including my records) - but it's plenty enough to satisfy me and I don't stray very far from the 60's and 70's (and a little from the 80's).

Oh, and I'm the husband. LOL! My username comes from my favorite character on the TV series Bablylon-5 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorien_(Babylon_5) and you must recognize my avatar Captain America (Steve Rogers) - Marvel Universe Wiki: The definitive online source for Marvel super hero bios.). Anyway, my wife uses computers when necessary, but is no expert by any means, doesn't see them as anything more than a tool (not something to enjoy - she almost never surfs unless researching something and often just gets me to do it and provide her a list of good links or a synopsis), and prefers to read and watch television and do work around the house (which is pretty much almost everything given my condition).

Anyway, if you want to continue this, let's do it in Today or a thread on Chillum or by message rather than here - as this is for our music fans.

Take care!

Hello Lorien I love the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's music Here is a little list of some that I have,,,,,Diana Ross and the Supremes, summer fun hits from many bands, The Police, Jimi Hendrix, # 1 R&b hits from the 70's, Leo Sayer, The Hollies, Led Zeppelin, Barry White, Lional Richie, Engelbert Humperdinck, Grand Funk Railroad, Frampton comes alive, Pink Floyd, Don Henley, CCR, Foreigner, Stepenwolf, Lobo, BeachBoys, Flashback of the 70's, Billy Ocean, Eric ClaptonSantana, Badfinger, Boyz II Men, Samanthe Fox, 1964 Classic Rock, 1965 Classic Rock, Debbie Gibson, 1966 Classic Rock, 1968 classic rock the 70's supergroups, Guitar Rock of the 1975-1975Lost In Love 1 and 2, Toni Braxton, Celine Dion, Roberta Flack, Casey Kasem Presents the 1970's, The Turtles, Dion, Classic Queen, Surface, The Troggs, Sha Na Na, The Raspberries, Eveerly Brothers, Iron Butterfly In-A-Gadda-Da Vida the 22 minute version and so on. I started collecting when I was 14 and today I am 55, and my wife always looks when she is out for bands that I grew up with and then buys them for me, oh and I don't have 5000 cd's, I had over 5000 songs downloaded in my computer, I have at last count a little over 900 CD'S and would you believe I also still have my old 8 tracks someday I would like to burn them to CD's, And my favorite of all times is the AM GOLD 1972 by time life which was by far the best year of my life and I was 16 years old. Being disabled when I was 40 and now 55 so 15 years ago is when I really started collecting I had a lot of time on my hands if I don't have the radio on or a headset listening to music I would go stir crazy.
