just sounds like dust causing an overheat. if your fan still works your ok, but if you want to monitor it try downloading nvidia system monitor NVIDIA System Tools with ESA Support

Give yourself a huge pat on the back, now that you are a computer nerd, (the next step is computer geek), there will be no stopping you.
If you give it a good clean every couple of months or so you should be OK.
You can add an extra fan if you feel the need, but if it's kept clean then it should be OK.
I'm glad your up and running again.

I have now copied over everything from external drive that I want, good excuse for a bit of housekeeping! The only thing I need a final piece of advice on is that my video files that I copied using the Backup thingy when doing the Factory Reset are now .dat files. I don't know how to access them? I am currently copying them over and its going to take 3 and half hours so there is obviously a load of data there. The folder says USMT2.UNC (if memory serves). Any clues on what I do next?

I am glad to belong to the fellowship of computer nerds. Do I get a certificate and a medal or something?! I am actually quite chuffed with what I have done, thanks to you lot it gave me the courage to have a go.

I think it's because you have to associate them with the software you view them with, when you install the software or view them they should be OK.
If not give us a shout and we will take a look.
