Vista wont boot up

I own a Sony SZ650N with Vista Business 32bit. I turned on my laptop the other day and at the boot up loading screen with the loading bar it would just endlessly load but as the bar goes, once in a while it lags and freezes for a second or two then continues.

So i decided to reformat my laptop to factory condition. After i did this it was the same... Except there was once i managed to get to a welcome screen and then it would also have the loading curser that would freeze occasionally as well in an endless cycle. Then i tried restarting and then i got to the default installation of the applications that came with the laptop but then it froze again with the same result. Froze at 62% while it looked like it was still installing... But when i moved the mouse it was really laggy sometimes just like the situation with the bootup screen and the welcome screen.

Sorry for not adding the details on.
Ive had this laptop for a little bit more than a year. It has 2GB of ram, upgradable to 4GB. 2.4gHz dual core processor. Never had a problem with this laptop until now.

Hi sillyjav,

This is a tough one! Have you ever gone to any unfiltered websites recently? What type of Internet Protection System do you have? The problem could also be that you are running a 32-bit Windows Vista. See the thing is 32-bit is weird it successfully processes 2.3GB of RAM to 3.8GB of RAM. I highly doubt that this is your problem though! Does your processor support Windows Vista 32-bit?Supply any more info about it as you can! Reply with this info and I will be happy to help some more!

I dont think so, i use ESET internet security. This happened so suddenly i dont know if it has anything to do with the hardware. I did a hardware check and the CPU, Memory and HDD are all fine. The only difference is that i am located in Canada but i recently just flew over to Asia and the plugs are different. But my laptop has been workin fine for a few weeks now. I tried reformating it again and i cant even get past the booting up loading screen. I read some other people who kind of similar problems and it seems to point to the motherboard. But im not entirely sure because their problems werent exactly the same.

Sorry I keep saying "Hi sillyjav", I want to sound professional! You should definitely see if it this motherboard problem! It might not be able to support Windows Vista. Vista has had a lot of problems with compatibility lately so you should definitely reply me with info on your motherboard. Then I will really be able to help you to the best of my abilities!

Haha it doesnt really sound professional when you call someone silly (just kidding). I actually have no idea what my motherboard is. Is there anyway i can check this? Can it be found in the BIOS? I forget how to get into BIOS though.

Hi sillyjav,

Look up on google the model of your laptop and find out the motherboard. It works! Type in your model and mind the motherboard equipped with it. Should get an answer on google in a relatively short amount of time! I am not aware of how to check that on your laptop! Try the google search though! Should work! I will be able to help once I get your motherboard model!

Hey,

I tried but im getting lots of different model numbers and im not sure what a motherboard model number looks like. Could the motherboard model number be MBX-170

Hi sillyjav,

I know what your problem is! You are running your Sony Vaio on a MBX-170! That is a 64-bit motherboard! You currently have a Windows Vista Business 32-bit! That is your problem! The reason your computer was working before was because it was in MBX Compatibility Mode (hidden file).

You have two options to fix this problem. Scenario 1 is to buy a whole new motherboard preferably a NVIDIA brand name motherboard. All NVIDIA new motherboards are 64-bit(Keep in my mind this will solve your problem and make your computer faster but it will cost a minimum of $1000.00. Motherboards are expensive!) Scenario2 is to buy Windows Vista Business 64-bit! This will be compatible to your motherboard! Much thanks and good luck!

Is there no way to make the motherboard go back into compatibility mode. Why would Sony do this if they werent compatible.

I also got a new error while my vista tried to install
"Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware"

Hi sillyjav,

Sony would not do that. It is the motherboards fault because the compatibility mode went out of use some how. It ran regularly and running a 64-bit MB on a 32-bit OS can sometimes really screw a PC up. Since it is in this none responsive state you can't really put it back to compatibility mode. The only thing I suggest is to take it back to Sony (wherever you bought it) or you could buy the Windows Vista 64-bit OS and see if that does you justice.That new message guarantee's that the problem is your PC hardware! For some odd reason... i left my laptop to sit for a day and i tried turning it on and it actually worked... NOW it works completely fine. Should i still send it in to Sony? or should the problem be fixed?
