vista is the best.

hey all, just thought i would say that imo i think vista is the best when others seem to still hate it. imo it looks cooler than windows 7 which i also like. i do alot of old discarded pc repair and have to say that vista will run very well on older hardware. most drivers seem to be found at the time of os install so can't complain about hardware driver problems that i read so much about. any way just my positive opinion and personal experiences. thanks for the space. poorguy

I've heard from some people that some programs that run perfectly fine on Vista64 have problems on W7 64 bit. I have Vista 64 bit SP1 and like it fine. I do miss the jump lists and Taskbar progress in the buttons though. Other than that it's pretty much the same feel.

hey MilesAhead,i have run in to that problem with software working on vista but not on w7. office 2000 pro runs on vista without any conlicts but will not run on w7. i have had vista since it was released and have always liked it. guess i like it because most people seem to hate it. it has always worked on all of my desktops with very few issues. glad someone else likes vista. poorguy

Most of the problems stem from when the OS first came out, after SP1 & 2 most of the bugs were ironed out. Another problem was people trying to install the OS on machines before doing thier homework. Whenever I design a machine I always find the drivers for the relevant OS before deciding to use a piece of hardware. I have both Vista and win 7. Win 7 is on my laptop and I have turned themes off on the laptop to speed it up (and it works very well).

hey roy69, i agree about doing the homework. i have done the same as far as making sure to have drivers ahead of time, it does simplify the process. most drivers i have been able to get and burn to a cd just in case they were needed. have been real lucky that most were installed when loading the os. i rescue other peoples desktops that crapped out on them and for the most have been able to do a full recovery unless the hdd was dead. i donate these so try to use what free tools and software that i already have. i am surprised at how good these run with vista. sp1 and sp2 did take care of a lot of the problems. gives me something to do. poorguy

My wife would agree with you. She still runs two Vista systems. One of them we got the first day Vista came out (Febr.1, 2007). We never really had any serious problems.

I myself prefer /7 - maybe because it has been so long since I used Vista.

hey whs, i just like vista cause i know several people who just don't like it but then they see my desktops run vista with no problems. yeah i have had vista since it came out and my desktops were vista capable. i also like w7 but imo vista is just cooler for me. i do like the direct x11 in w7 for my flight simulator x. i am dual boot vista and w7 and switch between the 2. i will ride these out until MS no longer supports them. i have w8 but still don't know what real advantages it has for me that i don't already have now. i am a desktop user and don't own a tablet. i have a laptop but don't ever use it. i like the colors and the glass look of aero. sidebar and the gadgets are cool. i like the big analog clock and that i have a calender always available. it is amazing what makes me happy as i get older. poorguy

You should get a tablet. They are really fun. I have a Nexus 7 32GB and last week I bought a 7" Curtis Klu for $59. This thing really rocks. I have been on it most of the time since then. The specs and the reviews do not look that hot, but in real life it is really fun. Make sure you get a 7033D model (if you get one). The "D" is important because those models are already rooted and have the Amazon Apps store enabled. You also can get to the Google Playstore.

I bought mine at HHGregg. This week they are selling them for $69, but even that is a good deal considering that you can do anything that you could do with a $500 tablet. And it is amazingly fast. I was really surprised and positively impressed. It takes a micro SD card up to 32GB that even my $250 Nexus does not have nor do the iPads for a lot more money have this option.

I'm on 7 all the time now. My kid's PC runs my old Vista, and I still to this day like it more than 7.
Never had a single problem with Vista, although I didn't get it right when it was released.

Kind of like buying a car...be weary of first-year models. They will always have issues because they're a first version.

hey all, the little nexus sounds really cool. i will have to check them out. already have some micro sd cards for a camera. sure sound more affordable than a tablet. as far as vista and w7 still like vista the best and i switch between the 2 depending on what i need to do. i saw somewhere that someone had a laptop that the display folded into a tablet, that seems to be a neat setup. will definitely check out the nexus. thanks for the input on those. poorguy

My Computer

hey whs, you sure found a good deal on your nexus 7. the ones i looked at are from $125.00 to $249.00. i will keep checking around. they do look really cool though. will keep you posted on what i come across. at the moment money is a little tight due to medical issues. DAMN OLD AGE, GOLDEN YEARS MY ASS. poorguy

My Computer

Just to clarify the prices - the $59 deal was on the Curtis Klu. For the 32GB Nexus 7 I paid $230. But even at that price it's worth it.

hey whs, is their any advantage of one over the other or do they both do pretty much the same. to me they both seem to be able to web browse and email. i'll have to do some more research on them. can see where they would be handy for everyday on the go. poorguy

My Computer

ok whs, gotcha on the difference. the curtis klu is like the i phones but no phone and the nexus 7 is a small tablet. can see a use for them for on the go. think i'll do more looking at the nexus just because of the size. it would be a lot easier than the big laptop that i own and don't really use. it would cover my needs for out and about. i never would have thought my vista is the best would lead me to this. thanks for the info. poorguy

Just to clarify that technically running office 2000 on either system isn't supported by M$ since it is so old. That said I know that it works on Vista because that's what my mom has. I don't know what the minimum supported version is for 7 but my guess would be 2007.

As for myself I am more used to Vista than 7.

Not really. Both the Klu and the N7 are 7" tablets. They can essentially do the same. For the Klu, you have to get the 7033D - the D is important because that model is already rooted which would be otherwise a pain.

The main differences of the two are:

Price - $59 or $69 now for the Klu and $199 for the Nexus 7 with 16GB

Quality - the N7 is better made and has a better screen

Storage - the N7 is 16GB (at $199) and the Klu is 4GB - but it has a micro SD card slot for up to 32GB which the N7 does not have

Performance - the N7 has a quad core CPU and 1GB of RAM, the Klu has a single core CPU and 512MB of RAM

For the rest, it is more or less the same.
