Vista + HP driver = ??

Hi,

You can connect it directly to the PC.

You need a cross-over cable & not a straight one. This is to account for the Tx & Rx functions i.e change them over, which is normally done in the router etc.

So, if you have a cross-over cable you can use that in place of the wireless option to test the unit.

I actually am wanting to set this up on a network anyway. Do printers automatically have addresses or am I having to assign one? IF so any tips on interfacing this thing with my cisco router?

My Computer

If you aren't using the DVD With the software then you will need to assign an IP address yourself which is very Hard and can be Dangerous and mess up you Whole Network

Hi,

The router will give it an IP address but this will change depending on what is connected & when & by what came first, so you will need this to be a static address (Unchanging).

You should be able to set the IP address in the printer network settings menu.

Note:-
Please ensure it is uneque to the system & on the right table 192.168.0.1 (router) 192.168.0.33 (Printer) all of this is dependant on your network.

Do you know enough about the network & settings etc. to be able to do this?

Thanks guys, it looks like it was done automatically when I hooked it up to the wireless router and used the Windows "add a network printer config option." I actually have three of these exact same printers that I am going to be using on the same network so the drivers are the same. Will I have to assign a different IP address for each one or will the router or computer know this and do it automatically when I hook the other two up?

My Computer

It should Obtain the IP Address Automatically If you have your DHCP Enabled on your Router (Most Likly)

Hi,

Please bear in mind my previous post regarding configuring them in the printer.

The router will automatically assign the first available address, which is not neccessarily the one you have now!

In my hp menu, i can't assign a ip, but he does have a buisness one.

Honestly forget about ip assigning, and let the router do it. The router only see the device as a MAC address, and not as a printer.
For all your router knows the 3 priters are 3 computers... which in a sense they are..

The router only assigns an address when you power cycle the device, so if you leave them on, they maintain the ip. But the way you set up the printers, vista doesn't care about the ip address, but knows it as a network device, like it would with a laptop shared drive, it'll just scan the network and pick up the device.

Basically, don't worry about the ip, Vista and your router will do that for you.

Hi all,

Unfortunately, when the printer software runs it creates a TCP&IP printer address port on the system & it becomes a fixed address for the printer.

Therefore you can not rely on the router with DHCP enabled to correctly address the printer device as the address on the network changes with each power up.

Therefore a printer port with a static address will not work!

Unless you lot know better?

All the drivers are just double click and install.
