Vista + HP driver = ??

Guys, I may be half brain dead tonight but I am attempting to install a driver for the hp9050dn. I download the appropriate driver from the HP site and it asks for the area on my computer to save it. Fine. I download it to my desktop. Then I click on it and Winzip comes up, I click run, and it says 44 files extracted successfully to my C drive. So is the driver installed? I have no clue. The files have no little disk icon which I would usually click to install, were a GUI screen pops up and walks you through the install. Nothing like that. The printer is not able to be located by my computer. Is it installed? What am I missing? thanks in advance for any tips.

My Computer

I do not think that it is installed
Go to search and type
devices and printers
Do you see your printer, if yes it is installed
Now does it work?
If the printer does not work, but the driver is installed, uninstall the driver from devices and printers.

Then you could just install from the website or save to desktop and install from there.

This is one way to install drivers
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html

This is the more difficult but better way
How to Install Vista Device Drivers | eHow.com

Do not download anything from the link that I gave you. Just follow the instructions on how to get it from the company website

Just for information,
If you have the option install or save, select install. Make sure that your printer is off.

Turn it on when told so.
normally you have to attach the cable after the installation of the drivers and software , during installation, Uninstall the any old driver disconnect the USB cable and reinstall driver/software only connect the cable when instructed to do so

Once again, you could install from the website. if that option is given (my favorite method) or install from the desktop

I really appreciate your reply and attempting to help me. Per your instructions, I could not find the device so it definitely is not installed. I attempted to update the device via the links you sent but since the device is new to me, I never have installed it before so it cannot update.

I go to hp's website and download the driver file, it says 13.5 MB downloaded. Great. Next, I click on the icon and Win-zip extractor pops up. My choices are 1. Unzip 2.Run Winzip. I click unzip since the option to run unzip tells me I have to purchase the winzip software. Anyway, after clicking unzip it quickly (1 second later) tells me 44 files have been extracted. Then thats it. No pop up, no instructions about install preference. nothing. Is it possible HP left this out of the driver download?

My Computer

Unfortunately, I cannot do it for you, if I could I would

I am returning the link that you sent me, but on the instruction page. Follow carefully.
Make sure that printer is off until told to turn on. Remove the printer cable from the computer until you are told to turn on computer.
Read these instructions very carefully, it will work. I have an HP printer, too

Ok, final question. Anti-virus is off, firewall is down, driver is downloaded. 44 files are unzipped to my computer's directory. Shouldnt the printer now be available as an option when selecting "add a printer"? its not. Shouldnt there have been some pop up instruction after the files were sent to my directory about tall those things you mention like, "now power on printer, now plug in cat5 cable, now go shoot yourself etc? " I get none of that. Just files are extracted.

My Computer

If you download properly, you will see an icon. You install from the icon.
Did you follow the instructions, exactly as given by HP, that I sent?

You follow the instructions and I will find the page to be sure you have the correct drivers.

I did follow the instructions. FYI I noticed I still had another diver icon from an old printer on my desktop so I clicked it to see what would happen. It opened with the same winzip program however something was different. There was a prompt which says, "When done unzipping, open setup.exe" This does not appear with the HP download icon. Does that mean it is corrupt/or missing from the download?

My Computer

No that pop up does not prove anything. If it were the same company I would expect it to be the same, however
I wish that I could just do it for you. Its so easy and you are just making a little mistake.
When I installed my HP, I had an icon on desktop. I right clicked and install. It was very easy.

Im going to bed soon, I will help tomorrow unless someone else comes by.
Do this
Write down each step that you do
Example
I went to website
I pressed the dowload button for HP1050
It appeared on my desktop, etc
Do that for me.
We will get you up and running.

I cant promise that we will get this to work, but I can promise that I will try everything that I know to help you. I also know that it is just a small mistake that is causing this problem. There are other members who may help, too. It is probably just a little step that I am overlooking. Its hard when I cant see the printer and computer.
Night, my friend.

So some reason, the auto run exe isn't starting up.

Try this.. D/l the driver to your desktop. right click and extract it to a folder on the desktop. Then extract the file hpc9050c. There should be a setup exe in that one which should run the setup.

I think being a buisness system it might not being auto running, but thats just a guess.

Guys finally got it installed. Perhaps the guess about it being a Business OS not allowing for auto exe was right. I downloaded it 15 times and clicked on every single file and none of them would start the exe. Finally, I went to add a printer and then clicked add a local printer and it asked from what file/directory I should add the driver from.( I had been trying this but was attempting to add a network printer but that was not working) For whatever reason, when adding a local printer with this utility it activates the auto set up and the driver installed correctly. Many thanks to the people kind enough to respond and pitch in to help a stranger.

Okay, I am back with another issue and anyone's two cents is appreciated. As I mentioned it seemed as if the driver finally installed and I am able to view the hp9050dn as an available printer however when attempting to print the first test page it never printed and now when I look at the printer it says "error" next to it.

Incidentally when I try to use HPs auto-detect utility to find HP devices connected to the printer it says that no HP devices are found. How can I be sure the compter and printer are communicating and that the printer connection isn't busted? I tried a new three new cables and still nothing. Test pages printed DIRECTLY from the printer come out fine but I cant print from my computer. (this printer is new to me but a used device)

When I did my "connect a local printer" option the default was LPT1. Is this the issue?

Thanks Again

My Computer

How exactly are you connecting nto the printer? A usb or network cable?

IT is a network cable. A friend of mine jsut told me that you cannot connect these network printer directly to the computer with a cat5s cable and it must be routed through the wireless router that I have. He also said I need to assign an address to the printer and somehow link this to the router. Gonna give this a shot.
